It's based on a comic book by Frank Miller... well, it's not actually based on, it was Co-directed by Robert Rodriguez (El Mariachi, From Dusk Til Dawn, Spy Kids) and Frank Miller, the author. They basicly took every panel from the comics and filmed them. It's shot in this hyper-saturated black and white, so it looks like a black and white comic, with certain characters and things colored in, just like the comic.

The story? Revenge. That's it. It's 3 seperate stories really, barely intertwined, about revenge. Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis, Elijah Wood, Jessica Alba, Clive Owen, Rosario Dawson, Benicio Del Toro.... a few others I can't recall are in it.

After I watched it, I felt like I'd just watched a hyperviolent japanese anime version of a 1940s Film Noir.
