JacksRevenge, I really warmed up to Palookaville. (actually Fatboy is making the rounds lately - Palooka, Better Living, and the On The Floor mix) Palookaville's not my favorite album of his bunch but I definitely like it as time went on. It was a slow burn... and I quite enjoy the Palooka offerings. Nowadays I find the songs a bit more fleshed out, having a bit more soul than the tunes on Halfway (which I wasn't really keen on Macy Gray, but that's just a matter of taste). I like the song Putting It Back Together. It's a very personal song, it's really a beautiful song... Fatboy did have a strong hand at writing the lyrics because it's about picking up the pieces to his marriage and making things work, a sort of testement to how strong his love is for his wife. For someone who's music has always been happy happy joy joy, I think it took a lot of courage to put something like that on an album, he really put himself out there - it was a good move and my hat's off to him for that. IMO if I did not like another track on Palookaville it wouldn't matter because I like this song so much.

I can understand why people don't like Palookaville and I can't knock them for it. It's different, he's chartering new ground and musically trying to find his way on a slightly new path. I can respect that. Some people dig and some people don't, and it's all right.

Whirly! U just hit it right on! The lyrics to many of the songs are very personal and very intelligently weaved around the melodies. And sometimes way toooo cool.

You don't like Push and Shove? That's exactly in the same context, the lyrics that is, one of my favs on the disc. Like the acoustic version on the second disc of the japan edition very much also, but the original is BEAUTIFUL.

I quite like the groundbeats of the new songs but the whole tracks seem to be much more fun music than serious stuff as much of fatboy slims recent work on palookaville. . . This poppy style is a thing that bothers me quite a lot and i'm missing that "underground" uncommercial touch of "Better Living Through Chemistry" or "Between The Gutter And The Stars".

Ok, I gotta admit the first few spins i was pretty turned off by the Ole Pair Of Jeans song, but as I spin it more, I absolutely am falling in love with the new fatboy with a very strong lyrical base to his songs.

The lyrics are so fuckin good, I'm just blown by his new direction. It's not the same extacy crazed tunes of the 90s, but I LOVE the new Fatboy.

I can connect to a lot of what he's saying constantly since Palookaville, and the way (whoever writes the lyrics I don't care) the lyrics have been put together.

I'm just lovvvvvin these two discs!

Two outstanding remixes which I hadn't heard before :

Brimful of Asha - Cornerstone

I see you baby - Groove Armada

Now these were two songs which, the first i liked a bit when it came out back in 97, but I love what Fatboy did to it.

I found a nice link to this song being interpreted by someone :

The second song, I just plain fuckin always hated, and couldn't stand, i just very much like the Fatboy treatment it received.

This disc keeps spinnin all the time (tho I've got my hands on a lot of new BT booty), but this is all that I spin these days - too much fun!

I love the two new songs - champion sound and the BEAUTIFULLY penned That Ole Pair Of Jeans.

Ah, I keep ranting here while i keep lookin for like minded fellows. :D

OK OK OK - I'll pick up the new Fatboy soon! Probably next weekend when I have some money to blow.

I have plans to sit on a beach this weekend, toasted out of my mind. I think the Fatboy tunes from my boombox would fit that scenario... maybe not the new singles, but any of his albums will do...
