No, what fucking sucks is ripping up a perfectly good vocal. It sucks a lot of the musicality and humanity out of the track and leaves you with an unsatisfying experiment.

LMTO,Its electronic music not a Pop/rock ballad. It's suppose to sound a bit crunchy. And as far as I think the original Setting Sun isn't known for its musical and soulful sound either. The big beat, the bass, the psychedelic vocals and everything in between is itself pretty messed up. I mean the song is called "Setting Sun" not "A Beautiful Sunrise". There is a sense of impending doom in the track and that mood translates well into the live version. If you have a problem with this track then you must have a problem with all the live tracks where vocals have been altered with to have a better 4 to the floor 4 dance effect. Out of Control, The Golden Path....

Cool track! I haven't heard this version before. I love the description too!

Day 3 - Star Guitar (Shinichi Osawa remix)

This track is just fun and gives Star Guitar more balls. Not better, but different. I love the energy of this one.

WTH, yall are into some weak shit. It should be called "Star Guitar (Shinichi Osawa fucks up the original mix). This track is too happy and it only works when the vocals come in. The last bit is kindda cool though.

No, sir, you're on the wrong track. The vocals, if anything, is the weakest thing about that song. This enitre remake is great, hands down.

And btw, dude, are ya appylin' for the poster boy of the bat-crap-crazy-forum-troll-association again?

No Csar, I'm applying for Combative Search And Rescue association. Where I search for dumbass posts and suggestions and then rescue all yall from potentially shitty music, since its pretty clear yall can't do it for yourselves.Call me a prophet.listen Tsar of Russia, there are some remixes on which everyone can agree that they suck and then there are some where half the people fucks with and half don't. This remix by some slanty eyed pink shoes cousin is not one of those.

Wow it's been a while. This was a big part of 8th grade for me, sitting on long bus rides listening to this track and the rest of the songs on the album on my ipod. An excellent album all around, had a lot of heart to it.

Day 4 - Mercury Rev - Delta Sun Bottleneck Stomp (Chemical Brothers Remix)

Has to appreciated for borderline insanity. The whole thing is loaded with, almost completely comprised of, signature Chemical whooshes, lfos and swirls. I remember listening to this loads around my 8th grade year too, I had tracked down a compilation release of Chemical Brothers remixes, the one with the stencil cover.

Ha. My turn. I'm really enjoying this, by the way. Nice work Eis-T.

I was listening to the battle weapons the other day and I realized how immensely f*cking fierce #5 gets, pushing it past the album version of It Began in Arika that appears on Come with Us. Make sure to give at least the 4:25 mark a listen, because that's where the biggest difference between the two tracks comes in. It feels like a crushing, yet amazing, sense of doom pounding from the jungle.

I remember hearing this track for the first time and thinking that it was quite a groove, the way the vocal sample is EQed down and blends into the velvety beats. Tom and Ed certainly made a ferocious one here, and it still hits me every time I listen to it in full--the primal energy flows, and it flows well.

I was always a purist for the long version of Afrika as well, its a beast. But when it came to doing my Chemicalism mix I found it easier to use the album version which surprised me. I thought having a complete version would be better for transitions but i think the long version is such a massive track, it was making the next track an anticlimax, whatever i did. ALthough it is slightly cheating using lp version cos the segue into Galaxy bounce kinda helped. Anyhoo I digress.

I chose this for today:

I first heard this at creamfields 2001 in the Bugged Out tent. It was played by virtually every DJ that night including the Brothers.
I just love what they did with such a deep and calm track but still managed to make it banging but with some nice chill bits and I think its a better version, more of a song than the original which is kinda just a rambling thing really.

I actually half agree with this, Setting Sun never sounded human except for maybe in its pre-Chems Oasis demo format. The wrecked vocals really suit the more direct rave experience of a Chemical Brother's gig, rather than the equal party/home listening vibe that's defined their studio releases. But it works both ways, listen to the 2010/2011 Out Of Control/Setting Sun mashups and you can hear how well the standard vocal works live.

Golden Path has never been performed with chopped up vocals, unless you're counting the Escape Velocity performances in 2011 with Vocode Coyne.

I wish! It's a great song in its original form, lyrically and musically.

I appreciate what the remix does, and I want to like it.... but it's never clicked for me. I love the original so much, as rambling and sketchy as it is, for the space and mood and vibe of the thing. You find that in one breakdown in The Chems mix and the rest is emotionless four to the floor action. Always disappointed they didn't do more stuff with the best aspect of the original.

:) all the rage when I first started checking out the forum. I refused to watch it in its entirety due to my "Further abstinence plan" of not listening to a single bit of unreleased Chemical material till the album dropped. A bit painful but completely worth it when I stayed up late and watched the full audio/visual experience. Going back to this video after the fact was fun, Tom and Ed watching the crowd, getting into the song with hands and claps... and just chilling and drinking water. The song's sped up a little too, I wonder if this was a slightly early version with a faster tempo or just an artifact of DJing.

Oh, and use "media" instead of "youtube" to embed videos.

I was in that crowd, and it was magical.

Quite the memorable time in my life--I drove down from San Francisco to Indio with Biff on that day. We drove back up the next day. We literally drove 900 miles round trip to see the Chemical Brothers DJ one night. I paid $50 to some guy for a ticket he wouldn't use. And it was worth every penny. :)

^ I remember looking at all of you guys when the build-up at the beginning was starting. I told Bosco who was next to me 'This is the new shit!' When it dropped, I was kind of saying to myself "Tom and Ed.....what in the hell have you done" while getting warmed up to this new sound. Then when I heard that slow vinyl-like breakdown, I was like "Ay dios mio"

Seeing them live is great in all, but witnessing a new track is beyond bliss! Thanx CR and Poots for giving me a reason to log in and chime my thoughts on such a memorable night!

Sure, everyone knows Block Rockin' Beats, but sometimes we get so familiar with a track that we brush over the greatness. I'm sure the Brothers have fans younger than this song, but this track came out at a time when electronic music was very much considered underground. Back when it was released, songs like this were not typically played in mainstream America. Hell, this wasn't even representative of what they were playing in the clubs, at least not in NY and Philly.

I had never heard a big beat track before and was smacked in the face with that bass drop, those crashes and rolls, and that funky, funky vibe. I discovered this song by chance and it forever changed the direction of my musical interests.
Gonna work it out...

^ Hell yes. NEVER get tired of hearing this.

A few nights ago, I was watching some BBC4 prog where danny baker talks to some heads about 90's music in some detail. This was the first track played in the program. I suppose it does represent a certain time.
Also, in same program each guest had to give a 90's memento of some kind and the journalist Alexis Petridis gave some flyers from the heavenly social and a picture of tom doing a big gurn with the trademark glasses on. Nice

For those in the UK: Here's the programme.
The 70's one is worth a watch too; one of the guests is Peter Hook from Joy Division/New Order.
