'light in my mind'
in terms of the melodies, i think its spot on - it really tickles me, properley, you've caught the end of night/album floaty ecstasy feeling thing really well. well done - i think you have quite a talent for composition.
couple of points on the production (puts engineers hat on ;))
1) the drums are a bit ropey and detract a bit from the track - it sounds like you've cut a drum loop up and programmed the hi-hats over the top?? personally i think it sounds like the hi-hats stick out too much, ie in relation to the rest of the drums they sound too loud - and because there pretty much the only 'treble' part of the track this makes them sound more prominenet as well.
theres a couple of things you can do to sort this out: try turning the hihats down a little bit so they sit with the main loop a bit better. it also sounds like theres a lot of reverb on the cut-up drums (not the hi-hats) as well?? if the reverb is part of the sample try putting a gate on to calm it down a little bit. then get a small plate reverb and apply the same reverb to the drums and the hi-hats - this helps gel them together, but only use a short one with a small decay. when you've got the volumes and reverbs a bit more balanced compress the hi-hats and the main drums together, and this should help beef them up a bit.
also a few more sprinkles of trebly noises like shakers etc etc can help make the mix a bit more balanced and make hte hi-hats a bit less prominent.
just a few ideas man, hope it helps a bit or you can just completely ignore me - it is your tune after all ;) :)

I tried another try. But the track isn't finished yet (like many others) and a fine tuning is necessary. But so what..

Hi Mippio!
First a question man: why should I ignore you?????? ;-)
Statements like that are welcome. And I need those comments which help me where to set the focus on. It's quite useful to hear constructive reviews for the improvment of my amateur work.
As you said the hi-hats are bit too strinking so I have to agree on this. The drums are ok I think, but the hats doesn't fit to them. I didn't proceed on this tune yet but when I do so I'll remind me of that and will involve your opinion.
Thanks to you!!!
P.S.: May I ask you which music programm or source you're using for creating? Could you post a link to a short track ('caus I have damn slow modem) you think it's a good one?

Csar like your work. Tracks are really relaxing and melodies are well produced. The problem was with the drums as mippo pointed out. Good work over all. I like the test for a new song. can't wait for the full version ;-)
Thanks for responding! X-D
Makes me feel good if you would like to listen a new full version. I'll keep on working on this tune for the next time..

Thanks to you!!!
no worries :D

yeah, im using cubase sx with reason rewired. i use kontakt as my sampler, and ive got a nord lead 2 and an sh-101 for my synths. ive also got an alesis compressor, a lexicon mpx550 and a TL audio fatman comprsssor im borrowing off m'chebne, all running through a mackie desk. also got a few soft synths, but i dont really use them that much. plus a pod xt and a 1974 fender telecaster (turqouise green, mmmm :)) and also m'chebne has a new orange fender mustang bass which turns up here occassionaly. which is also ace.

do you mean one of my tunes??? - my musics here - www.musicv2.com/artist/mippio - i guess gotalazeon is probably my favourite at the moment, but sweet dreams my LA fed-ex always makes me smile. :)

Hi!
Wow I'm confused a little because of so much technical information. Thanks! Is Cubase better that Fruity Loops (which I'm using)??? Could you explain what are "nord lead 2" "sh.101" "alesis compressor" and the other things and what they're able to do?
I listened to your song and I have to say it's really good particularly the drums. It have a real-sounding sound. Very good work!

is cubase better than fruity loops? dunno mate, with sequencers is down to personal prefernce. in terms of sound quality i hear the the new fruity loops studio has the same audio engine as logic. i like cubase sx because 1) it uses vst instruments/effects 2) it handles midi very well 3) i like the way it handles audio and the timestretching facilites 4) its quite intuitive once you know the basics and 5) i know how to use it!!! (seriously, it's really weird using anoither sequencer now - it can be done but you get so used to one way of working....) - so if fruity loops is working for you, stick with it.
nord lead 2 - analogue modelling synthesizer - very beefy sounds - wicked for leads, pads and squiggles
roland sh-101 - old skool monophonic analogue synth - wicked for bass sounds, tearing acid leads (the chems used it for chemical beats) and squiggles
alesis compressor - erm its a compressor - compressions quite complicatred - check this article out : - http://www.computerm...s1/effects1.asp - basically it reduces the dynamic range of your sound source, making it cut through your mix better. erm yeah. check out the article ;) :)
lexicon mpx550 - multi effects rack with spanking sparkly reverbs on it.
cheers for the comments on my track Csar, glad you liked it :)

I have to say that my listening to your song was a bit too short because it was an IT-lesson (PC) and time was running out so I got just a piece of it but I'm going to "suck" it from the net next time!
I like the way you created the beats with that inverted crash on the 3rd+ note, you know what I mean?
For myself I've got a problem with my tracks concerning the "real" sounding issue, you know. I think they always sound more selfmade than songs from professional musicans. How you manage that?
P.S.
Well, I don't want to be obtrusive :-// but did you check out my latest tune "Moving Feets"?

inverted crash on the 3rd note? erm, nope, sorry dude, got no idea which sound you mean!! there aint no inverted crashes round these here parts!! (which tune are you referring to btw????)
real sounding?? im not sure im at that stage yet mate tbh, but lots of compression and good use of reverbs plus a mastering plug in like t-racks will help you get there ;) :) and remember - make sure your sounds are good from source, because you cant polish a turd.
had a listen to moving feet, very wiggly!! didnt quite develop enough for my liking, but a good solid groove.

Here's the new (almost) full version of the older one "Light In My Mind". I changed the song's title into "Nebulous".

Nebulous:
A real smooth one. Nice to hear your new drums, I think they have improved some length. It doesn't progress that much though, at least until the last couple of minutes.
Moving Feet:
Groovy! Very interesting and nice sounding rhythm. Starts of very well. The bassline kicks in a bit late. I was going to say that this is your best song so far, then I listened to Nebulous, now I can't decide. Both are good. 8)
If you want to keep things fresh, my advice is that you should find some new setups for your instruments, you have used the same sounds for some time now.
