His live sets are often a let down. I saw him open for the Chemical Brothers here in toronto a couple of years ago and although he had some good parts the set was borring. I do like Trance, house, and the anthems but it was rather dull. I did receive his autograph and his towel from the night which was a nice gift.

I've seen him a couple of times. I saw a dj set years ago and it wasn't bad. Pretty good mixing n'all but it was nonstop trance, not much variation so after about 30 minutes I'd had enough. I saw him do a live thing at a massive called Nocturnal Wonderland about 3 years ago and it wasn't up to par. The music was very samey, just trance fodder but it was Oakey so my hopes weren't too high to begin with. The lasers were all right but nothing spectacular. And the crowd were more interesting than the music, especially the really e-tarded kid who kept trying to do a light show for me. Anyway. Oakey is known for his big ego, which can be seen on stage. He constantly does this sort of Jesus pose thing with his arms outstretched and a smug look on his face. The sad thing is that he didn't seem to be enjoying himself all that much!
I guess if trance is your thing and you can get off on it and it keeps your interest, then Oakey would be a good act to see. All in all, he's really not that bad in a live setting but it's just not my thing I suppose. A lot of the kids at his show were really into it and that's cool, they all seemed to be enjoying themselves so that's what matters most, no? But for me, it just didn't pique my interest enough to ever shell out time to see him again.

dunno, its a tricky one
there are so many options these days!! do ya want to play vinyl, cd or mp3's?? do you want to play out and about, or just something to do in your bedroom?? and it can be very costly
if you wanna play vinyl you wanna get direct drive turntables. belt drive decks are hard to mix on, learning to mix on these will be more frustrating. technic 1200/1210's are the best. you can get these for a reasonable price second hand, and they are bullet proof!! numark make good decks to i hear. the vinyl option would be good if you want to play out in pubs and clubs. but buying vinyl is very expenise!!!
if you want to play cd, there are lots of options. i would recormend vinyl emulating decks. these decks are nice to use, the user interface is more intuative. non-vinyl emulating cd decks are still good though. a pioneer cdj-100 is a good budget deck. the cdj-800 are excellent high end deck. you called also get a twin deck, which are normal rack mount design but they are normally quite fiddily to play on. cd are cheaper than vinyl. depending what music your gonna play, it a more widly available format to buy/burn. you might no be able to play cd's out in pubs and clubs
mp3 is something i know nothing about. but i know you can get hardware that looks like a cd twin deck, that acts like a interface to you computer mp3's. this is probably the cheapest way to get into mixing. but your not going to be play outside your bedroom with this set up.
the whole dj thing is evolving rapidly at the moment. with technology changing what can be done. im sure vinyl is gonna become a rarity over the years. i'm kinda been thinking about having some internet radio set up. i love to try doing something like that!! though i dont know how worth while it would be.
