I had to warm up to Come With Us. Once I heard those songs played out live, I was totally sold on the record especially Star Guitar.
I can't imagine liking Push the Button more than I already do. I guess I'll find out when I hear some of those tunes live!

Oh, but you will.

2 days ago i couldn't believe my own eyes, they were advertising for "Push the Button" on tv and that in Germany!!!! Incredible if you know they are not quite popular here as other (commerical) artist.

I think the beats in Giant are similar to those at the end of Come Inside, leading me to feel that perhaps at one time, it might've been in the works to put Giant somewhere near Come Inside on the album... then again that's just my impression.
Obvious thing I noticed about Giant is the vocal, "gotta make it... gotta make this work" - I've read a couple of recent interviews with the Chems where in regards to collaborating with other artists, they've said something along the lines of... paraphrasing here: "before, it had to work, but with Push The Button if it didn't work, then it didn't work". What was said in those interviews was the first thing I thought of when I first heard Giant.
I'm probably reading too much into the song, aren't I? ;)

Just realized I never posted my thoughts on PTB, as I was busy with midterms at the time of its release. So, here goes, track by track:
Galvanize: As with every other opening track on Chem records, this one starts off the mood right. Love the strings, the Q-Tip vocals, great stuff. Not quite up there with the other 4 openers though, but still great. 8/10
The Boxer: Madchester!!!! Fantastic song. Took a couple listens to grow on me, but it is class through and through. 8.5/10
Believe: Takes the Surrender-era sound one giant step further. I need an equalizer for my car system badly because some of the sounds at the end hurt my brain. But that's a good thing! 8.5/10
Hold Tight London: Sounds like the soundtrack to an important point in anyone's life. Builds the tension without spilling over. Makes my heart swell. 9/10
Come Inside: My early favourite from the album, a couple tracks have now caught up with it. Love the raw power of the track. "Would you like to come inside?" I sure would! 8.5/10
The Big Jump: Totally caught me off guard as unlike any previous Chems work. Now reminds me a bit of Orange Wedge, and I really like it. 8/10
Left, Right: My opinion continually changes about Anwar's performance, but the instrumental is KILLER! Great acid guitar lick. 9/10 (instrumental), 7/10 (Anwar's performance)
Close Your Eyes: This song HIT me while I was driving to work before the sun had fully come up. Simply beautiful. My favourite of the Chems downtempo tracks. Makes me nearly cry and reminds me of a beautiful morning. 10/10.
Shake Break Bounce: Again, very un-Chems, and took a while to grow on me, but it did. Catchy and one of the few points on the album that has the carefree spirit of their earlier albums. 7.5/10
Marvo Ging: Great, catchy track that gets me moving every time. Reminds me of The Sunshine Underground somehow. Not quite sure why. 8.5/10
Surface to Air: Everytime I listen to it I get a different impression of it. Blew my mind the first time, as it was just at the perfect time of sunset. Then a couple indifferent listens, and then it moved me again. Something about how it abruptly ends without resolution throws me off, but I think that's part of the appeal. As opposed to TPPR, which is almost exhausting after its 9+ minutes (think post-orgasm refraction period), STA leaves me in great anticipation of Chemical 6. 9/10
Thank you Tom & Ed for another great album, and my marks upon reflection seem a little low b/c I'm trying to avoid excessive idolising. Rest assured, I think it's a worthy continuation of the Chemical legacy. Looking forward to seeing you live.
