I'm not gonna front, I actually credit the Chems for helping me discover other indie acts as a result of either their remixes or collaborations.

Got into New Order (yes, it was Out Of Control that got me into them), Primal Scream, Beth Orton, The Charlatans, Mercury Rev, Spiritualized, Manic Street Preachers, and Midlake as a result. Ironically enough, I had no idea Midlake was a local band (since I used to attend University of North Texas in Denton during my undergrad and currently work in Dallas) until AFTER their collaboration on The Pills Won't Help You Now.

Still find it crazy that a local act was able to collaborate on the track with the act that ultimately got me into electronic music.

Definitely. New Order through Temptation/Star Guitar, The Flaming Lips (hell yes) thanks to The Golden Path, Beth Orton, Shinichi Osawa's cover of Star Guitar turned me onto his body of work, I Break Horses of course... Heck, I probably wouldn't have checked out the Beatles if it weren't for the Tomorrow Never Knows obsession.

Honestly though, I've been turned on to more great music hanging out here on the forum with you guys.

After I fell in love with DYOH I went to search for more "Big Beat" to hope to find more awesomeness. I found a lot of good stuff such as fatboy slim, the prodigy, midfield general, ceasefire, bentley rythm ace and the propeller heads but none had the same sonic quality as DYOH.
The best discovery was probably Coldcut's "beats + pieces" that was featured in one of the mixes by the brothers iirc. this led to the discovery of the ninja tune label with their vast collection of hedfunk and overall trippyness.
I think discovered more stuff directly through the forums than through the chems to be honest. But it was the music by the brothers that wanted me to search for more.

Another thing that has changed: originally I was in it for the beats, but now I feel it is mostly the melodies that make me love their music so much.

Back in 96, I was really into punk rock and hardcore...then I heard Exit Planet Dust and it opened up a whole new world of music for me. I saw music for the first time...sounds moving around the room and changing color...yes...sounds in color. It blew my mind...and I guess I would say I have been introduced to thousands of new artists ever since.

Thanks Tom and Ed!

I did have the long version of that story at the old message board I think...maybe one day, if I get some time, I will share it again here. One of the best nights of my life and it was for my whole crew...altered our life-courses.

This thread rings a bell with me because I heard the I Think I'm In Love remix yesterday, after not having heard it in way too long a time. It came on shuffle as I was driving around California style, in my beloved convertible. Driving with no particular place to go and music go hand in hand for me. That combination is one simple pleasure I don't give myself often enough. And that song. It emerges from my speakers like sunlight. It's just sheer magic, real rainbow-riding-unicorn type stuff, to my ears. And so yesterday shortly thereafter, it prompted a solid Spiritualized listening session, something I've not given myself a chance to do in what seems like forever.

The Chems were responsible for me discovering I Break Horses. But I've always been one for memories. I grew up listening to bands that were in the New Order realm, and later on in young adulthood other bands in the Madchester realm like the Charlatans. Listening to the Chems helped me rediscover and reinforced my appreciation for these bands as well as the whole Manchester style. The same definitely goes for Spiritualized and to a degree The Verve. Because Richard Ashcroft's voice... There's no other.

Plus there's the forum. I might never have some of the music in my collection I do, without you guys!
