They are telented, but, they don't reach the kind of audience the chems do...I think Daft Punk lack a certain something, the last album was not that good...Homework was an outstanding contribution to Dace music and the music industry as a whole...without sounding to negative, Daft Punk remain as one of Dance musics pioneers but as someone mentioned earlier....they only do stuff if there's a good currency goin on...

They cant even be arsed to follow up Discovery...its been to long....if you leave something to long, it just gets harder to follow up.
My life is a boat, being blown by you. With nothing ahead, just the deepest blue... To me you're like a setting sun. You rise then you're gone.

Recently they were asked to remix Franz Ferdinand's Take Me Out. On paper, Daft Punk remixing Franz Ferdinand sounds like the bomb, but no, if you've heard it you'll know all they did was add some high freq noises here and there and extend some parts. Disappointment. :x

i seen daft punk live at v97, i wasn't all that. homework was a pioneering album, one of the most important dance albums ever. but unfortunately they never repeated that success which is a shame. discovery is so bland

I dunno why people expect groundbreaking stuff all the times. i mean you can only create something magical once not all the fuckin time. Take Chems for example - DYOH was very original and fresh (not to say EPD, Surrender or Come with us weren't) but they weren't genre breaking or shit like that. It was good music that's all. People expected something out of this world kindda music from Daft Punk but instead they gave us really funky house/disco beats and i am happy with that. Same with Prodigy - I mean c'mon people get over AONO - it is a fantastic album and i love every song on it.

with daft punk i wasn't expecting a ground breaking follow up album. then again i wasn't expecting a dull album either, but thats what i got!!!

the chem have managed to make 3 consecutive ground breaking albums. they always say the third album a band makes is always the hardest. and the chems come along a prove the exception to the rule and deliver the magnificent surrender!!!!

and for the record AONO is shit!!!

Daft Punk dont do that much these days because Thomas Bangalter has given up DJing + Live work to protect his ears.

Everytime i listen to the Alive 1997 set im blown away.

but not forgetting that was a good 7 years ago.

These days daft punk are infact, boring, and more interested in being "cutting edge" (ala interstellar 5555, and recently designing a coffee table for some company) than being good artists for the fans.

as for the remix of take me out, hated it at first, and i realise its the fucking laziest remix anyone has ever done ever, but i have to admit, heard fatboy slim play it recently and it was superb, only because the original is.

AONO really is rubbish. like a lot of albums im hearing lately (palookaville especially) there seems to be a whole lot of run of the mill stuff and a few good tracks, not wall to wall class with some exceptional moments (as with the chems)

Discovery has its moments, not a patch on homework but its nothing like homework, its more nice music to listen to whereas Homework is at home in the club.

Id seriously chop off my little finger to have the new chems album now. i just dont know how im going to last. id say this is the only album ive eagerly awaited in a long long time.

Discovery works for me and i will go so far to say that it is better than Homework. Don't get me wrong Homework is class! but to say that "discovery is so bland" is just uncool. None of the tracks are bland. It is true that they are trying too hard to become cutting edge once again (likewise for Prodigy) but they haven't lost their touch. They can still rock the house.

As far as Plookaville goes i am very dissapointed with Norman. Same old technique, same style (which is ok but it is getting very predictable ) Chems on the other hand... are a whole different story.

And sneaker how can you say "record AONO is shit" it is not. Tracks like Spitfire, More Girls and Hotride are totally rockin. I agree as an album AONO isn't even close to TFOL, Music for... but individual tracks are pretty decent.

I see I've come in too late in the argument.

Gotta say I agree with sneaker on the Daft/AONO critiques. N'uff said.

chemicalreaction, you brought up a good point about people expecting each successive record from an artist to be groundbreaking, or better than the one before. I think it just boils down to this: when it comes to artists who've blown you away or really pushed the envelope the first time, you expect nothing less than the best each and every time thereafter. It's very easy to create these visions of grandeur when you anticipate a new record from an artist you highly regard. And when you've come to hear anything short of spectacular from your favorite artist... well, you know, it can be a big let down because then you've got to admit it and move on.

We are very spoiled with the Chemical Brothers because they have delivered each and every time. This is quite a feat... it's hard to pack a punch every time and at the end of the day, not have a weak link somewhere in the catalogue. No pressure on Tom and Ed!!! ;)

well thats the thing aint it whirly. the benchmark is set by the common ground we all share here, the chmical brothers. and for me no other dance act comes close to churning out quality dance album time after time like the chems do. maybe i have high expectations, but thats only cos one band for me consistantly manages to reach those standads!!
