Tough break for Green and England. Despite the soft goal, I think the US played very well after falling behind so early. They earned the point.

We didn't get ads during the game over here. However, there was a funny one they showed right before the match.

I don't think American "freedom" nor American automotives quite live up to their reputations, but the commercial is as close to a "two World Wars and one World Cup" spot that we'll see.

Gonna work it out...

I thought England played well yesterday, maybe we weren't quite clinical enough in the final third. Just a shame there were two moments that stand out for me - obviously Robert Green's howler (I'm sick of the replays already!) and Heskey's one on one miss in the second half that Rooney or Gerrard would've scored.

The USA played any decent football.England reminded me of Bolton, route one, long balls up to the big man.Staggering really. That Heskey is in the team at all says it all.Green always an accident waiting to happen. As a West Ham fan I have never liked him, makes far too many mistakes that cost goals though not usually as blatantly as last night.Lampard and Gerrard in the middle just doesnt work,if Capello persists with that they are going to get killed in the knock out stages.Lennon and Wright Phillipps aint going to do it for you when the serious stuff comes.Capello's after match interview was a sham.If he is happy with everything except the result, then he's deluding himself.I fully expect England to still top the group and go through but they are obviously not at the level of Brazil/Spain/Argentina.Would be better for England if the media had realistic ambitions for the team in the first place.

Seconded, the media coverage of England drives me round the bend. Also, I plan to watch all three games today but no doubt at each half time it will "now let's get the latest from the England camp" when more often than not there is nothing to report!!

I could only watch the second half due to work but I don't remember England playing any route one football. I thought we played a good passing game, just lacking a little quality in the final third.

Well McMarsh we'll agree to differ!I just find it remarkable that arriving at a World Cup after 2 years preparation England can be so unconvincing. No one knew before last night who Capello's No.1 would be and now AFTER last night we still dont.England consider themselves a top football nation right? What top nation would have Heskey in it?His career has been going downhill for the last good few years.Surely Crouch would be a better option?
S W-P and Lennon dont produce often enough for England.I wouldnt be surprised to see at least 3 changes for the Algeria game.
Could Rooney not play with Gerrard just behind him a la Torres and Gerrard at Liverpool? That way you could accommodate Gerrard AND Lampard in the same team.

For once, as a Scot, I thought I might be amenable to supporting England (even putting money on them to win overall!), but when Green made his error, I cheered without thinking, so that put an end to that o)

And when the US brought on an American-Scot at the end, I thought the scene would be set for him to get the last minute winner...

Likewise, I expected far more of them last night. If Barry comes back, which it looks like, should be able to let Lampard play more naturally with, as you say, Gerrard behind Rooney. And Crouch must be in the next few games instead of Heskey...

Ha ha, nice one.Though I think his greatest feat is his girlfriend. As he famously said himself, "If I wasnt a professional footballer I'd still be a virgin".Got a sense of humour to him anyway.

I think you're forgetting most football fans in England don't rate Heskey, the only people who do seem to be his teammates and Capello! I agree, Peter Crouch is a much better option up front with Rooney.

Anyways I managed to watch both games today so far, my thoughts on both to try and generate more conversation!:

Algeria 0-1 Slovenia - a game of few chances where the goal came via another goalkeeping error, this time by the Desert Foxes number 1 when he misjudged Robert Koren's strike and kinda let it go through him into the net. Otherwise promising substitute Abdelkader Ghezzal stupidly got himself sent off via two needless bookable offences, all within 15 mins! Overall Slovenia seemed well organised whilst Algeria put some good crosses into the box, but both teams limited going forward.

Serbia 0-1 Ghana - a good game deserving of more goals, the winning one eventually coming from an Asamoah Gyan penalty after Zdravko Kuzmanovic handled a cross. Ghana probably the better side overall but both teams played attacking football, had several chances to win and also defended very well. I think it will be interesting to see who gets out of Group D - what do the Aussies on here think of their chances?

Well its 2-0 to a very impressive looking German side at half time so the Aussies got their work cut out now.Especially with grandad Craig Moore at the back!!

But what i really want to say : STOP THAT FUCKING VUVUZELA'S ! If the FIFA can't handle that and put on a ban of them in the arenas i'll run amok. When you watch the games on tv it's like sitting in the middle of a bee swarm or something like that - whithout any other sound. The sound of hell can't be that horrible.
