Got the album yesterday...

OMG, I was shocked. It's that good.

So, here are my personal thoughts:

Galvanize

The weakest song on the album.

Just can't compare it to all of the previous openers.

And I don't think it will sound huge if the Bros would play it live.

The Boxer

Nice, playful, Fatboy Slim-like song. It would fit great on Palookaville.

Cool Aphex Twin reference halfway through the track.

Believe

BOOM BOOM BOOM. "Play-me-loud" feel.

It's good, but not up to the standards of previous dancefloor-stormers.

Nevertheless, it WILL get played by the DJs worldwide.

Smooth transition into...

Hold Tight London

Hmm... Underworld anyone? The beginning certainly says so.

Calm, gentle and smooth track with an epic feel.

Reminds me of Chase the Sun by Planet Funk.

Come Inside

It sounded much more massive on the Chile live recording, but it's a great return to the Chemical roots.

Huge beats. Cool strings. Powerful sound.

I think the track will find its way on the soundtracks.

The Big Jump

Kinda simple, but nice.

I liked the squeaky synths.

Left Right

I've never thought the Chems would do a track like this.

Not being a huge fan of hip-hop, I actually loved it.

Rage Against the Machine-like breakdown is great.

"You can't run—you can't hide!"

Close Your Eyes

What a track!

I'm a big fan of the Vanilla Sky movie.

Imagine all its soundtrack carefully condensed and packed into one song.

Huge Spiritualized feel.

Shake Break Bounce

Hello Spain!

Remember The Duke from the Singles 93-03 second CD?

A bit weird and experimental in nature—classical Chemical Brothers approach.

Marvo Ging

Relaxing, nice and happy chill-out song.

Again, I think it's a Fatboy Slim influence.

Surface to Air

Chemical Brothers album without a lengthy epic?

No way.

The best thing since The Private Psychedelic Reel, closely followed by The Sunshine Underground and The Test.

Chemical Brothers' very own One Perfect Sunrise.

Quintessential album closer.

Most favourite tracks: Hold Tight London, Close Your Eyes, Surface to Air

Least favourite tracks: Galvanize, Believe

Overall impression:

As sad as it may be, the Electronica epoch is over.

All the landmark albums was recorded in the 90s.

Dig Your Own Hole, Music for the Jilted Generation, Dead Cities, In Sides...

Orbital broke apart.

Prodigy's AONO and FSOL's The Isness had disappointed almost all of their fans.

But the Brothers somehow managed to succeed in resurrecting the style.

Instant classic.

I love this album.

ElectronicBattleWarrior - thank you for the well thought out review and breakdown of Push the Button tracks.

t-mac, welcome to the forums - and thanks for your honest opinions and enthusiasm.

I am so excited about this record. I can't wait til those sounds permeate my ears!

Some say reviews spoil an upcoming release... I say it's stuff like reviews and honest opinions that amps me up for a new record. It's what helps make this place what it is.

t-mac thanks for what i suppose was a positive review of our album..

but please our music comes from us, comes from deep within our imagination..to describe tracks as fatboy influenced, or underworld anybody is pretty offensive..however much we might respect those musicians..

glad that in the main you guys seem to like the record..tom and i are really so proud of it, live shows will rock the house...

please feel free to write what you like about the album, i'm certainly no big brother internet police man it's just a few of t-macs stuff was annoying

happy new year to you all

peace

ed chemical xx

ps. galvanize the weakest track, what the fuck, get some new ears!!

Hmm, anyone skeptical over the authenticity of miloco?

I can't see Ed describing any of the tracks as "the weakest", the Chems are always so positive over their albums, they only release stuff they're really happy with. If memory serves, in the ask Tom & Ed section, someone actually asked them what their least favourite track was, and they didn't give an answer!

Plus the Chems have openly admitted (previously) huge influences from the Beatles, also Talking Heads on Come With Us, so why would they be pissed off with other comparisons and influences??

This is all IMO, obivously.

I'm trying not to read the reviews on here, but for t-man to say what he said..WANKER! Some people just need to shut up unless they actually know what they're talking about now. I am a prime example of this, I am saying this because I know what i'm talking about.

Definately :D. i think we should have a REVIEW topic then people's reviews are on one topic so the people who don't want to read them don't have to.

I detect a bit of anger in your posts. Thing you have to understand is the proper fans don't listen to punks like tman, we know what you guys are capable of, god like music!

mmm i think people use such terms as a easy(lazy) way of describing what the tune sounds like, but at the end of the day it's all shot through with a chemical style so the comparisons are mute points.

I've always found comparisons and x Vs x situation fuckin annoying. Why do people have the need to compare things.

What the fuck? Galvanize a weak track? my jaw dropped when I read T-macs "comparision". kinda pissed me off and then I saw that the brothers read his review. oh well.

I just thought that I would say that all my references to other songs in my review are just there because only one minute part of the song reminds me of something. It's cool to think that maybe the brothers read my review.

I just got up, maybe it's time to wake "Shake Break Bounce!"

I also forgot to mension in my review. I think if you like the Confront your Demons dj mix or, the Live Chile performance, you're going to like this album.

Thanks Ed. Happy new year eve to you. and i'm really disapoint to miss this DJ set. I hope you'll rock the Znith of Paris.

just an other point : it's a pleasure to see that you and Tom keep faith on good stuff, and dig your own hole, despite this people who wants to "destroy" nineties or dance music is its global part. (dirty english i know lol).

I wouldnt say it was argueing, more like screwing t-mac's head on straight. Galvanize is not a weak track.

First, please excuse me if anyone feels offended. Delete my post if you like.

But I still don't think there's something wrong in comparing music by different performers. Saying "track A reminded me of track B" is different from "performer A made a blatant rip-off of performer B's track". Isn't it?

Anyways—it was just my personal opinion, my personal associations and my personal feelings that I wanted to share with you after listening to a masterpiece that is Push the Button.

And I do think that the Brothers' music is unique.

Tom & Ed, thank you for restoring my faith in future of electronic music.

please forgive me

I never meant to hurt you
