My husband, the computer geek in my family, wishes to pass this info along to you:
You need to reinstall the drivers manufactured by the company that made the cd-r, much like you would when updating your drivers for your sound card.
You can find what you need online - a quick search with "manufacturer + cd-r driver" should hopefully steer you in the right direction.

X-D -> nice one!
But funny as it was, I have 3 machines here with CD-RW, one of those has DVD-R.

I think Macs are excellent for many things, as are PC's good - it just depends on what you want to do. My husband is a gamer type person, and he loves what the PC can do for him. And since he's the one who built and maintains it, he gets first choice. ;)
I have a PC and so far it suits my needs just fine, I have no complaints except for maybe having to update my soundcard and drivers. I would love a Mac too - I grew up on a Mac (and I want my own computer - this sharing the computer thing with 2 other people is kind of... eh hehe) Plus the Mac's artistic possibilities I've seen and heard are really top notch.
