We wanna hear the news on "The Golden Path" which was previewed at the recent Chems gig @ FABRIC!!!!

Here's what Muzik Weekly Newsletter had to say 'bout it:

"... 3. The Chemical Brothers 'The Golden Path' (Virgin)

Two new tracks will be included on their forthcoming hits collection. This surging cut ? a collaboration with The Flaming Lips ? was previewed at their recent Fabric gig and it's ace...."

Yeh, not too much said 'bout it, but at least its out in the open and we want more!!!

until next time in the wonderful (but yet weird) world of... white_label

getting this thread back on track!!! this is muzik mags latest thoughts on the collaboration

The Chemical Brothers Feat The Flaming Lips 'The Golden Path' (Virgin)

A little like U2's 'With Or Without You' but with the annoying bits taken out. Their best collaborator since Beth Orton.

i dont like U2 and chemical brothers mentioned in the same breath!! i'm sure it will sound a mighty track

I was a big U2 fan once upon a time but they lost me somewhere around POP and it's been a downward spiral every since. Anyway - that's beside the point... kind of. I have to say muzik mag's description of the song is hardly intriguing. Flaming Lips are massively psychadelic, their songs are like the colors of the rainbow melting in acid. The Chems to me sound like sonic wizards blazing a trail through the galaxy. I would hazard to assume (since that's all I can do at this point) that a collab between the two would be full-on space madness, even if the song were sedate and mellow like when they remixed Spiritualized! That's hardly the stuff of U2's rock ballad With Or Without You is.

I suppose I'll just have to wait and hear it for myself! It's killing me.

(Talk about mentioning U2 and The Chemicals in the same breath! ;) The Chemicals shared the same venue with U2 when they were on the opening bill for a charity show at N.Y. Irving Plaza back in 2000, I think. I'm still searching for a review of that show that mentions the Chemicals.)

He - POP was the album that somewhat introduced me to U2. I was watching their video for "Mofo (phunk phorce mix)" on MTV once, but I had to get to the door and missed the track title. A long odyssey followed, and finally I had the remix single ordered from England.

Nowadays I could order it from all different places - I even had it in my own hands when shopping in London. Somehow spoils the magic that the single was about for me. The track itself is still great.

Their latest work - Electrical Storm - is one beautiful rock ballad. One of the songs that can both lift you up and bring you completely down as well, depending on your mood when listening to it.

On the same topic... I use to connect certain songs to special events in my life. When I was leaving from my final exams with a score of 92 out of 100, the very first thing I incidentally listened to was the Shamen's "Move Any Mountain" that made me feel even better.

Same goes for other songs connected to events that were not so good. :(

Anyone doing the same ?

I shouldn't say this in front of c-row, but I remember watching England vs Germany Euro 96 semi-final on TV, everybody in England was really sad and the BBC played a sad song on the ending credits called 'Walkaway' by a group called Cast. It made me feel worse :-|.

I had been listening to U2 since I was 12, thanks to my older brother who was a fan. That was in 1984, and it was Unforgettable Fire that got me full on into them. I personally feel, that for me, U2 reached the crux of their career with Achtung Baby. But that is my subversive thought on the matter and don't expect others to feel the same way. I feel their music is still potent to a lot of people, very passionate - and I believe that no matter how bombastic some people think them to be as musicians, they do have integrity that a lot of musicians don't have. There will always be a warm spot in my heart for U2. I followed them for years so there's a sentimentality attached to U2: my collection, they were my company on the walks home from school, all the concerts, and so much more. But something happened along the way that brought me to a musical crossroads. Perhaps it was that I played every single U2 song to death, day after day after day, and I just got burnt out, plain and simple. Maybe my ears needed to hear what else was new and out there. I don't really know. All I can say is they lost me along the way, but they aren't forgotten.

I think I can easily say that the Chemicals haven't replaced U2, not like that - it's not a phase but their music is with me during this leg of my life tour. You know? I feel that way about 2 other bands as well.

There are definitely certain songs that play like soundtracks to events in my life. There's songs that make me feel sentimental, there's songs that I hear that make me say, "OH my god I remember that!!!" and I have a perfect vision in my head of when I first heard it or whatever. There's songs that have helped see me through all kinds of personal events, good and bad. That's what makes music so great I think. It is very personal, but it creates common bonds like we see here on this board. Music becomes a very social thing when we can share experiences like a concert or what it was like when we first heard a song, or what song we listened to that sums up what it was like to date that person from a long time ago. Or a song that that saw us through a very difficult time in our lives, or whatever. You know what I mean. I'm ranting again. ;)

Oh, then I am just ranting back. ;-)

I think that this will happen with everything that is done or experienced too regularly. Music might be one of the best examples, because you can listen to it most of the time in many places. Music accompanies your work, your freetime, and sometimes there is just music - when you don't get distracted by something else and can completely concentrate on the music.

I really enjoy a nice evening with all my friends, but having them around all the time can become arduous. Even in a close relationship, one needs a day off every now and then.
