We have head-shops here that sell bongs - but they have to be called "water pipes." You know, in case undercover cops are milling about. Or something. Usually there's signs in these stores that tell customers to refer to smoking paraphenalia as water pipes.



As for growing kits, those aren't legal and you can't buy seeds either.



California has come a ways in moving toward decriminalization of marijuana and pot possession. Like say, if you're in your car and you've got up to an ounce of weed on you and the most you'll get is a traffic violation. Any more than that and it's intent to sell, which you will get busted for. If you grow pot, it's a bustable offense.



It reminds me of a funny story. Well, it wasn't funny for the people involved, but it's amusing.



Right before I first started working at the record store, in 1993, probably half the employees all lived together. They were renting a fairly large house in your typical California suburban neighborhood. It goes without saying, a bunch of stoner record store employee types weren't the best of neighbors. And it goes without saying that the smell of da kind hung heavily over the house, which was dubbed the "Cloud House."



Eventually, the neighbors got fed up with all the parties - people coming and going, kids parking on the lawn, the neighborhood children were frightened. So the neighborhood watch called the cops.



It was a bust. They found pot plants growing in every room of the house, and one by one, each employee was arrested and hauled off to jail.



So my poor boss was freaking out when half his staff didn't show up for work because they were all awaiting bail!

hahaha thats classic! its pretty easy over here if you just have an ounce or what ever, had a cousin in the drugs squad, and they basically are only really worried bout class a's and the dealers and importers. if you're found with a bit of grass or hash or a spliff it'll get taken off you and you'll get a verbal warnig, it is supposed to get destroyed but as i know too well it just gets sold on by the cops! or given to friends/relatives! X-D



i got searched at a festival here, i had a spliff and a little bit of grass to roll one later, the cop(who was a trainee and hadn't been corrupted yet!) took the spliff,and the little baggy and emptied it out into a muddy puddle, took my details and said if i was stopped 2 more times with anything its arrestable, which is pretty cool these days.....thank god i didn't bring my ounce of grass in with me!

Grow kits, for shrooms, are a grey area. You can't sell them here, but possesion isn't illegal, not of the kits. That's why I'm sending a bunch home :D



california is a lot more lax than the rest of the country. THere are medical marijuana groups, for $100, you can get a Doctors note, it doesn't have to be a prescription, just a note, saying you're allowed to smoke (you can get one for free if your Doc is cool) and you can go to certain groups and buy up to some insane amount of weed. I think they say you can legally have up to a pound a year or something stupid like that.



Of course, that's if the Feds don't come bust you. They've totally subverted our constitutionally mandated rights to make our own laws, in the effort to fuck with our freedom to get stownt.
