Ya...my setup is more software based, just don't have the money for hardware yet.
Sortware
-Reason 2.5
-Nuendo 1.61
-Logic 6
-Recycle 2
-Rebirth 2.0.1
-Cool Edit Pro 2000
-Fruity Loops 3
Hardware
-Yamaha RM1x
-Casio CTK-551 (for simple MIDI messages, the keyboard sucks)
-Delta 1010
-Mackie 1202 Mixer
-Gateway PC 1.8 Ghz , 80GB , 256 Ram
-Boston Acoustics sound system
-Numark Turntables + Mixer
-Alesis Air FX
I mainly use the turntables for sampling. I sometimes go to the local thrift stores and just buy boxes of old records. Pretty fun stuff and it keeps me busy for days. :D

JEChilbert, how do you run Logic 6 on your Gateway computer? :?
Its Mac-exclusive.
Its Mac-exclusive.
He put on a turn-down collar, a black bow, and wore his Sunday tail-coat. As such, he looked spruce, and what his clothes would not do, his instinct for making the most of his good looks would.

Thats what I thought. But then a buddy of my gave me a copy of his logic CD and he said it would run on my PC. The real bitch of it was getting the XSkey, you know, the little key you plug into you USB port to verify that you bought the program. I had to search online for an XSKey emulator. But it runs perfectly on the PC, I think it was all the way up to Logic 5 that it was Mac exclusive.

:? Right... must be Logic 5 you've got. It became Mac-exclusive for version 6, after Apple bought Emagic.
Check http://www.emagic.de...dex.php?lang=EN
Says there that Logic Audio, Gold, and Platinum need Macs to run.
This is a very boring post (mine here), so I'm gonna stop. ;)

Fruity loops is on the lower end of sequencing softwares. Yes the new versions include lots of cool features (128 band vocoder and such). I "grew up" and spent a lot of time with fruity loops, the older version I used wasn't that great, the mixer was crap, but the newer version have gotten a lot better. The problem I see with FL is that people get intrenched into it. There are so many presets there (and y'ull find this every piece of music machine) that people will just use the presents. Now if you're a original person, program your own syth's and produce your own drums it can be a very effective program. The only down side to it is its limitation. It really just has a software type of feel and, for me atleast, I have to get down into the nitty gritty to produce the sounds I'm hearing in my head.
I would recommend that anyone interested in making music to have a spin with FL, but also explore new methods of making music. To produce progressive material, you your self must be progressive in your creation. I would really encourage everyone to also look at accual hardware. Go to a local music store (Guitar center rocks) and just screw around with some stuff. They more and more you play around with software the more and more soft-sythn's sounded the same to me, and unless you want to go buy highend soft-sythn's like Roland's VariOS, Yamaha's O1x, and Lorg's MS20, PolySix or wavestation, you're going to be stuck with a lot of the same sounds.
I really stress the importance of hardware. I know computer sequencers are great for pulling everything together and organizing it, but don't be 100% of one thing. I also would recommend everyone picking up a copy of FutureMusic. It's rather expensive here in the states ($12 you get a CD with samples, pre-sets, and demos of gear with each mag, and lately freebies). It's ussually carried in Barnes and Noble or book stop. If your local B&N doesn't carry it, ask them to get it, they will listen to you.
