Got to jam on one of these with a friend yesterday:

http://en.wikipedia....ki/Moog_Prodigy

Aw, it was absolutely freakin' sweet. Felt like a rock star for a moment--especially because my friend has a killer home studio and he was jamming on some beats with me. Damn. Awesome. Moment. In. Time.

In other news, Soulwax tomorrow.

Orientation on Monday.

Law school in one week and two days...

Jesus.

The world is moving on, though. I'm holding some optimism for the first time in a while, and it feels good.

I wish all of you out there some good energy, love, and greatness.

I'm semi-retired but still got a creative flow in me.

inchemwetrust: Heres a little sample. I did this a while back. Hand illustrated all the elements and then tweaked and cleaned in the appropriate way digitally. And yes I am aware of the Do it again cover. I did this about a year and a half before that came out, which freaked me out. No website yet unfortunately, havent had the time to really have a good think about it etc. Now your turn!

Pooter: Let us know how Soulwax goes!? There coming for a festival down under in a month or so. New material?!
Come out from the cold and into the setting sun. It's where it all began for me (not in Afrika), like it was out of control. Then after that life was sweet. So dream on into the pioneer skies of the fourteenth century and rise from the sunshine underground.

I would have written about my experience sooner, but I got back to my apartment and found there was no internetz... :-(

First of all, I was pleased that the crowd at the festival was pretty chill. I was expecting to run into some raging assholes and some slutty, worthless c*nts as I raged away the day to the likes of some amazing DJs and performers, topping it all off with Soulwax. No mistake--there were some lame girls and guys at the festival, but they were a very small minority. Everyone there seemed into dancing and being cordial.

Without further ado--

My initial reaction was disappointment after not hearing so many of my favorite tracks by Soulwax performed live, but God bless Miserable Girl. If they stop playing that, I'm going to cry... forever. The bad news is that this was my least favorite set of theirs, but that's not to say I still didn't have an absolutely amazing time. I just had the same experience that I did after seeing The Chemical Brothers for the 2nd time--WHAT??!?! NO [insert name of song]??!?!!?!

I do hope they bring back more stuff from Nite Versions--Accidents and Compliments is an awesome, awesome track live.

They're clearly in a transition stage trying to work out what still fits in their set and what doesn't--some things are a bit choppy and disjointed, other things don't flow as well. BUT MY GOD THEY STILL HAVE THE ENERGY TO ROCK HARDER THAN NEARLY EVERYTHING ELSE IN THE WORLD!!!!! Steve is such an amazing drummer. Kudos to that man for bringing it harder than anyone else at Hardfest.

Loved hearing We Are Animals, Miserable Girl, and the new tracks are shaping up to be some memorable ones. Don't quite love "Work It out." LOVED the other tracks, ESPECIALLY the one where the screens were blue behind them. It was soulful, and seemed to be a wonderful bridge between Soulwax's live, awesome, fantastic energy and some of their epic studio songs like The Truth Is So Boring. In fact, that blue screen track was probably my favorite moment of the set.

Your making me a little confused mr pooter. I maybe seeing them the weekend after I get to London. Should I be out of my mind? Should I be expected to be disappinted? Who knows?

Their set definitely isn't as finessed or tightly perfected as their previous tours, but if you get to see them at a club, it will be a great night, almost guaranteed. They do, in fact, still rock your socks off in the most danceable way possible.

@ Mikl
Some of my work will be up soon, gotta resurrect my HD !

@Poot
Go to a show to see your fave band and find out they come up short.. playlist wise that is!
I do look forward to their new material though!

Maybe they were just beta-testing their new set! Changes do take some time to getting used to!

Yeah curious about the new material. Any different in style to the older stuff? More dance than rock or a bit of both still?

They did New Years Eve down here at the start of the year (as 2 Many DJs) and started the set with Hey Boy Hey Girl...2 Many DJs...Here we go! Gold.

I want to see them live again (Soulwax) :( It was one of the best electronic music live I've ever seen. Probably in my top 3 or 5 of the best live acts (not including DJs) I ever saw. They left me all sweaty and wet. I even lost a shoe during the live (I found it later though)

Ben_J, you're an animal. I've never lost a shoe during a set beore. Nice.

Their new stuff sounds the same as their older, awesome blends of rock and electronic music, but I get the sense that they're still finalizing things. They still manage to get the trance-like dance frenzy going on with at least one of the new tracks, though.

That's because I wear Vans, with the laces tied inside, so I can just jump in them and never have to tie my laces (because that's what the cool kids do, apparently). The donwside is they are equally easy to lose

Yeah, that's their usual set-opener... always awesome. 2 Many DJ's are my favorite DJs out there right now. Wish they included some Chems in the visual portion of their set though... they have some artwork that's just begging to be brought to life!

I thought that as well. Speaking of which.. the finale with Nirvana and the baby swimming closer towards the screen on the album cover while that was playing freaked me out a bit! (and the confetti!) And then later that night Proxy came on with his brutal beats. We were well off by then.Posted Image

6am this morning, not exactly National Geographic. Torch in one hand, crappy camera in the other... what a way to start the day.

I'm so pissed off. Last night Stereoheroes played in Paris (a french electro duo signed on Dim Mak). Their live is rough, and very good, but I've never seen them play before. The bonus : they play one of my tracks in their set (Davai Davai), so I was very eager to hear them play ! I went to the club with two friends. It's a cool club, so usually, anybody can get inside. But the bouncer rejected us, because my friend had "sport shorts" (the bouncer was like 300 pounds, I doubt he even saw any sportswear in his life), and I had "jean shorts" so it was "ok", but my friend could not get in.
Eventually I tried talking with the guy for 10mn, but he was closed to any discussion, until the point when he told me that even I couldn't get in now if I wanted to, and he started pushing be back. So we went back home and played with the PS3...

@Whirlygirl - try to dive 2 dives each week, weather permitting. Only did one dive yesterday. I am lucky, I have loads of good dive sites only a few minutes away from my place.

@Mikl - I got a dry suit, never cold. I am just north of Sydney, water isn't too bad anyway at the moment, but I'd still be cold in a wetsuit. No Caroline or Sammy  but there was a huge puffer fish as I was swimming into the cave. He wasn't puffed up though.

@Ben_J - what a bummer... sucks that bouncers can have final say on the dress rules.

This day in Maboul's history :

One year ago (precisely), I saw Kraftwerk live.
Roses are red
Violets are blue
And I will rape
Each one of you

That sucks dude. Especially if he was playing your track. Which club was it? I remember when I was in Paris I had to drop 3 names in french to get in to the Social Club! I didnt think it would be possible cause I dont speak french and the amount of people that were trying to get in attacking this one door guy decked out in louis vuitton with a clipboard, was crazy. Crystal Castles were playing and a couple of other DJs. Madness.

There was also another scenario where the guy at my work organised Boy Noize to play at this venue in Melbourne and the guards wouldnt let me in even with this guy talking to them! It was a full house though and they were rejecting people that wanted to buy tickets to get in even by that time. Probably my own fault should've rocked up earlier. I cant complain I guess, I rarely get free entry to anything but just couldnt believe how popular Boys Noize had gotten now!

@Ben_J--sorry to read about your bullshit.

Had a lovely, lovely date today with a classmate. Think I might be hanging out with her a lot more in the near future...
