This has probably been discussed but what are essential records made by other bands that must be in every Chemical Brothers fan record collection. I think the most important one is "Paul's boutique" by the Beastie boys. I just rebought it on CD, I already have it on vinyl with a crack on it, then I wondered what other records I should buy.

Radiohead: Kid A

This is definatly an essential album if you want to be taken on a journey. You can't listen to this anywhere though, you need the perfect environment:

-> 5.1 digital sound (tick)

-> Moonlight/darkness

-> A light breeze

-> Spaced out/under the influence

-> Clear mind/depressed

-> The want to be taken to another plane

In the middle of a silent dark night with good headphones is good enough for me to disappear completely.

Obviously, there's bias here ;) - Not all electronic stuff either:

Beatles - pick anything, you can't go wrong: my personal fave is Revolver

Primal Scream - Screamadelica

Stone Roses - Stone Roses

The Verve - A Storm in Heaven

Beastie Boys - Liscense to Ill

Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots (yeah, I know loads here will disagree with me on this one but I'm OK with that ;-) )

Charlatans - Melting Pot (a good introductiry imo to get your feet wet with he Charlatans)

Massive Attack - Mezzanine

Prodigy - Music for a Jilted Generation

Air - Moon Safari

Of course there's others but it would be too much of a "my personal favorites" list.
be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle

Listen to quite a bit of different music, n since I come from a rock n roll/ metal background, still absolutely love and follow some of those bands. If I had to make a list of my absolute fav fav category bands/ artistes, it'd probably be something like this..

(Haven't got into too much electronica yet, as got into the whole genre about 3 yrs back, n was very happy with discovering all those Chems gems for a long time, wallowin in their mire... :) .. so could sure use some reccos, if people get my musical drift.. )

Pink Floyd - THE gods of everything TRIP!

Chemical Brothers - our gen's Pink Floyd! :)

The above two are a different plane in music. No other artists can ever touch these two gods of mine. More than music they are TRUE frikkin portals to worlds.

The Prodigy

Stratovarius

Iron Maiden

Anathema

The Beatles

The Dust Brothers - Fight Club's my fav soundtrack ever!

Cradle Of Filth -- hehe.

RATM - but not too much.. just find Morello absolutely brilliant

RHCP

Fatboy Slim

BT

Letfield

The Crystal Method

Daft Punk

Steve Vai

Joy Division

Primal Scream

Beck

New Order - whatever little I've managed access to yet

Infected Mushroom - not a very big fan of trance anymore, but disc 2 of Converting Veggies is absolutely mindblowing!

Shpongle

Shiva Shidapu - a long time back when I was just getting into electronic music

Listen to a lot of other shit, but that list would basically be stuff I can swear by, and sure rinses my soul. ;)

I don't listen much hip hop but "Freundeskreis" also sounds not bad. I like smart and funny lyrics...
