fuckin weather got to me! Ive been sick since Saturday, missed about 3 holloween parties :'( . Mucus has been pouring out of my nose like niagara falls, and i gag every time i talk. Im fuckin sick of eating chicken noodle soup! }:-@

Skip the soup for a change and have a nice hot buttered rum. That'll clear the nasal passages right up. Hope you feel better soon!

Hot buttered rum?....never had, but im sure ill love it since rum is my my favorite liquor. :D

k - this is easy. It's not the traditional hot buttered rum recipe because that involves ice cream, but it'll do in a pinch.

1 cup water

Add 3/4 cup rum

half a stick of butter

Bring it all to a boil. Sip slowly, go to sleep.

Then there's the hot toddy which is equally as good but involves whiskey or brandy. Clears the nostrils right out.

1 cup water

3/4 cup brandy or whiskey

About a tablespoon of honey

plain ol' tea bag

squeeze of lemon

Bring it all up hot but not necessarily a boil. Sip slowly, go to sleep.

Of course you can always just chug a half bottle of Nyquil and hit the hay.

Get better soon!

sweet, gonna try the buttered rum tonight! And thanks for the kind words! :)

Yes that's a sane plan, but it's not exactly "blood chilling cold" or is it?

For us weather pussies in Southern California, anything below 68 degrees F is considered "freezing."

Ok, that's your limit, and as I said earlier mine would be -13F (well just freezing is a bit warmer ... maybe -4F) ... so what about everyone else? Anyone want to challenge my amazing record? Anyone?? Darkstar? }:-)

I'm pretty sure DS has you beat... if it wasn't for his blood alcohol content, he'd be a canucksicle by now.

hahaha, canucksickle!

I've endured harsh winters... when I was small my family and I lived in Illinois for a couple of years. All I had to do was play in the snow so it was all good.

The harshest winter I had in recent memory was when stash, our son and I did a very brief stint in Minnesota in 1998 - from late October to January 1. I'm not ashamed to admit, but that was all I could take. I just could not do it. There was a break in a blizzard and we hightailed it out of Excelsior before sunrise on January 2. But not before I had to wait for a snow plow to push my stuck car out of a gas station parking lot. Then it was heading west to more mild conditions. I think my windshield washer fluid defrosted somewhere on the drive through the Colorado Rockies.

My hat is off to the hearty people of the great white north who can endure such extreme weather.

-25 C/-13 F is pretty common around here from late December through February. Warmer days will leap up to -15 C, while we usually get a week or two of -40 C (or even worse on rare occasion).

I start wearing a spring jacket or just a sweater once it gets back above -10 C in the spring. :D (........ and then it starts heading to +30 C!)

I'm going to do my best to get some nice winter pics of all the snow. I thought winter had kicked in for good last week, as we got a lot of snow. Today it melted quite a bit though, so it's pretty messy outside.

You win!

If it's below -20 C I'm not going outside unless it is absolutely necessary. We get about a week of -25 C every year (rarely below that), usually it's -10 to -15 C in the winter. -40 C sounds painful however, sure you can always wear more extra clothing but nothing really works at all when it's too cold. So it's understandable that you're a bit jaded of the winter. :)

It's interesting how people adapt to the climate they live in. Some may gawk at the freezing conditions we get but we just have central heating in place of air conditioning etc. Extreme temperatures are still problematic, while technology helps to survive how much can you actually "live" in them? The large amount of communication going on through the web here is not that surprising. People prefer to stay in their heated homes. :)

I still think the cold has its advantages. It's like getting a fictitious riot police cold water gun targeted at you every time you go outside. The climate keeps us from fighting among ourselves and instead working together to survive it.

I agree. I bitch and whine about the weather all the time, but ultimately, it's something I just put up with. I think in all the time growing up, we had school cancelled perhaps once. It doesn't matter if it's -40 C out, school is on and we're expected to be there. We'd have our outdoor hockey league games play on unless it was below -25 C.

I think we've gotten close to 30 cm of snow in the past two or three days (about a foot) and with the windchill it's hovering around -30 C most of the time.

Business as usual. My new car doesn't seem to like the cold quite that much, as it has a bit of a hard time cold starting, but it's handling things well once started and drives fine. Just need to find where that block heater cord is tucked up under.

I hate it, but I'm already getting rather used to things. Waiting in line clubbing will suck tomorrow. Will probably have to get there around 10 PM to get in without an undue wait.

Comfy in my basement. Maybe turn on the fireplace in a bit. Think it'll be a guys' night of wine, beer, and poker tonight, as the girls are having a bitch's night in.

It's beautiful here! (hovering around zero, very nice.)
He put on a turn-down collar, a black bow, and wore his Sunday tail-coat. As such, he looked spruce, and what his clothes would not do, his instinct for making the most of his good looks would.

I crashed my car into a curb turning into my bay the other day due to icy conditions. Undriveable. Sitting in the insurance compound awaiting an estimate.

I'm currently driving a black 2008 Pontiac Grand Prix rental as a replacement though. Nice car.

Winter sucks. Except when you and your date huddle together and make out to keep warm while the car's heater takes a few minutes to make the car toasty.
