France is doing meh for the moment during the preparation games. We have a weak defense. I don't think we'll go far in the competition anyway. And according to a poll, we are the most hated team in the world ! Wooo !
For what it's worth, Henry will only be a substitute. I think his hand is a big part of the reason why everyone hates us.

I'm watching Italy - Mexico right now. Mexico is leading 0 - 1. It's always fun to see Italy (kind of France's big enemy in footbal) in a bad position, but yet it's not reassuring, since Mexico is in our group.
EDIT : apparently it's not live, and Mexico won 1 - 2

@ Ben_J - A Frenchman opening up a World Cup discussion poking a jab at Ireland. That's cold, but oh so awesome.

We better laugh about it rather than fight about it (of course it's easy for me, I'm on the "good" side). Too bad Henry is getting old. He needs to use his hands now to make us score. It's his 4th World Cup I think.
Tomorrow we play against China. It should be an easy one, but you never know...
Hey English people, remember that one ?
England was leading 1-0 at the 90th minute. Zidane shoots a free kick 1 - 1. Zidane shoots a penalty 1 - 2. And earlier, Barthez stoped a penalty shot by Beckham.

I disagree. There's certainly a decent audience in the States, but it's not necessarily directed to the U.S. team. It's all the immigrants that go bat shit for their home country. A lot more evident in a widely diverse city like Chicago.
As for myself, I'll be watching too. I know the rules and how the game should be played. But, I'm not totally familiar with the players or its history. I used to play it as a kid, and have two cousins who are really good at it ( 1 was being scouted at one time.)
Plus, it gives me a reason to bust out my NES again and play one of my favorite games.
Argentina has a special kick in the game, thats absolutely unstoppable.

I suppose I was referring to support for the US national team, but you make a very good point.
Good luck to everyone's team. Lucky us, we open against England. They're looking like serious contenders this year while we'll be fortunate to make it out of the group.

It reminds me of the Euro 2000 final too, where we equalized in the last seconds against Italy.
Remember at the last Euro how Turkey won 3 or 4 matchs in a row by coming back in the game during the last minutes ?

Probably one of the most epic matches ever.

I think England have a really good chance of winning it this time with the legend that is Mr Capello in charge but I don't really like all the speculation. The English media tends to hype up the England team's chances before/during every tournament and if we don't achieve those lofty expectations they then take great delight in telling us how poor we were!!
@Sneakerbeater: Sorry, Manchester United who?

I do now yeah, I remember watching the Czech Republic v Turkey game when the Turks came from behind in the last 3 mins or so to win. Incredible game although one that Peter Cech will probably want to forget.

Seriously though,English football is much loved here in Ireland, its the English media we laugh at.There's no middle ground with them. The English team are either the best in the world and going to win the World Cup (after beating Algeria) or the worst shower of turnip heads on the planet (after another penalty shoot out loss)
Football has a funny way of extracting justice eventually and France, a place I love by the way and visit often, must be worried...........!

Unfortunately, just like Italy won 2006, just like Greece won Euro 2004, the winner of this World Cup will be the team which plays the most anti-football, score once and defend the rest of the game (gay much?)
Argentine has a wonder squad, but with a junkie retard coach, they'll be happy to pass the groups.
