In one week the World cup will start ! I guess a lot of members will follow it (maybe not the Irish ones).
France is doing meh for the moment during the preparation games. We have a weak defense. I don't think we'll go far in the competition anyway. And according to a poll, we are the most hated team in the world ! Wooo !
For what it's worth, Henry will only be a substitute. I think his hand is a big part of the reason why everyone hates us.

Ah, yeah it's sad how even the best player in the world can lose his temper and do something stupid.

I'm watching Italy - Mexico right now. Mexico is leading 0 - 1. It's always fun to see Italy (kind of France's big enemy in footbal) in a bad position, but yet it's not reassuring, since Mexico is in our group.

EDIT : apparently it's not live, and Mexico won 1 - 2

Mexico is gonna be the tough team of the group ! I'm less worried about Uruguay. But South Africa could be difficult since they will be home.

I'll be watching what I can and following the rest online. It's true that it doesn't get much support here in the 'States, but there are some of us whom enjoy it.

@ Ben_J - A Frenchman opening up a World Cup discussion poking a jab at Ireland. That's cold, but oh so awesome.
Gonna work it out...

We better laugh about it rather than fight about it ;) (of course it's easy for me, I'm on the "good" side). Too bad Henry is getting old. He needs to use his hands now to make us score. It's his 4th World Cup I think.

Tomorrow we play against China. It should be an easy one, but you never know...

Hey English people, remember that one ?

England was leading 1-0 at the 90th minute. Zidane shoots a free kick 1 - 1. Zidane shoots a penalty 1 - 2. And earlier, Barthez stoped a penalty shot by Beckham.

I disagree. There's certainly a decent audience in the States, but it's not necessarily directed to the U.S. team. It's all the immigrants that go bat shit for their home country. A lot more evident in a widely diverse city like Chicago.

As for myself, I'll be watching too. I know the rules and how the game should be played. But, I'm not totally familiar with the players or its history. I used to play it as a kid, and have two cousins who are really good at it ( 1 was being scouted at one time.)

Plus, it gives me a reason to bust out my NES again and play one of my favorite games.

Argentina has a special kick in the game, thats absolutely unstoppable.

I suppose I was referring to support for the US national team, but you make a very good point.

Good luck to everyone's team. Lucky us, we open against England. They're looking like serious contenders this year while we'll be fortunate to make it out of the group.
Gonna work it out...

He didn't dive, the keeper played everything but the ball anyway  And still, you had a penalty too, Barthez stopped it, so there's nothing to discuss :P
It reminds me of the Euro 2000 final too, where we equalized in the last seconds against Italy.

Remember at the last Euro how Turkey won 3 or 4 matchs in a row by coming back in the game during the last minutes ?

Does someone remember the final of the 2005 Champions' League between Milano (AC I think) and Liverpool ? Milan was winning 3-0 and during the second half-time, Liverpool goaled 3 times and eventually won after the penalties.
Probably one of the most epic matches ever.

I hope France go out in the first round tbh as I don't think they deserve to be there after Henry's handball. But then equally wrong is Sepp Blatter's decision to seed the European Play-Offs in the first place, meaning underperforming 'big' teams like France and Portugal were virtually guaranteed to face a lower ranked team.

I think England have a really good chance of winning it this time with the legend that is Mr Capello in charge but I don't really like all the speculation. The English media tends to hype up the England team's chances before/during every tournament and if we don't achieve those lofty expectations they then take great delight in telling us how poor we were!!

@Sneakerbeater: Sorry, Manchester United who?

I do now yeah, I remember watching the Czech Republic v Turkey game when the Turks came from behind in the last 3 mins or so to win. Incredible game although one that Peter Cech will probably want to forget.

I do remember that Champions League final yes (someone I work with is a Liverpool fan so I didn't have much choice lol). I still think Jerzy Dudek stepped way off his line to save some of those penalties, but even still an astonishing comeback.

Even though Ireland wont be there we still look forward to England's participation.By that I mean all here in Ireland want England to progress from their group, win their Last 16 match and then lose on penalties in the quarter finals to someone like Portugal again!
Seriously though,English football is much loved here in Ireland, its the English media we laugh at.There's no middle ground with them. The English team are either the best in the world and going to win the World Cup (after beating Algeria) or the worst shower of turnip heads on the planet (after another penalty shoot out loss)
Football has a funny way of extracting justice eventually and France, a place I love by the way and visit often, must be worried...........!

France is utter crap, they stand no chances in this World Cup and with that brainless coach, although i am a fan of thier national team since Arsenal are my favourite club, but honestly, they are total shit.

Unfortunately, just like Italy won 2006, just like Greece won Euro 2004, the winner of this World Cup will be the team which plays the most anti-football, score once and defend the rest of the game (gay much?)

Argentine has a wonder squad, but with a junkie retard coach, they'll be happy to pass the groups.
You're never too retarded to RAVE!!!
