I have absolutely no idea where to discuss (it'll probably turn into another iTunes pissing contest anyway) this so I thought I would start a new thread.
I have an iphone. And one thing Mac is known for besides the love-it-or-hate-it iTunes is their vast array of applications. I've had my phone for over a year, and admittedly I don't have a lot of apps because, well - even though there are a ton of free ones, there are tons more apps that aren't free, and I can't be blowing the grocery money on apps.
Anyway. I was introduced to a most incredible app yesterday called rjdj. Part of it's being incredible is that it's Free. The best way to describe it is like being on acid, without being on acid. What the app is, is a series of different "scenes" are downloaded. Some scenes have a back drop of beats or some have non-obtrusive rhythms, other scenes sound more like gushes of air, and some have no sound at all until it picks up on the noises in your actual real environment. I haven't explored every scene yet, but that's pretty much the gist. You plug in your headphones and choose a 'scene'. You don't even need to turn the volume up that high. The mic on your phone pics up the sounds in your environment such as conversation, a car door shutting outside, a giggle from a cartoon on television, etc, and what you hear through the headphones is distorted. Further still (depending on the scene) every sound and movement you hear is transformed into music. I'm having a tough time trying to describe how this app works, since it's one of those things that has to be heard to be understood. Here's a youtube clip to give you an idea: http://www.youtube.c...h?v=Q5Oa61KIBvs
Even more cool, is Air released their own rjdj application called Love. God I love those French guys, hahaha. And although this one is not free it is worth the every bit the $1.99 it costs. Can't find any youtube for that. This app is nothing short of amazing, in all way shape and form.
So anyway, those with iphones or ipods go out and get this application and tell me your heads wouldn't explode if the Chems made an app like this. :P
Another thing I have been noticing in the iTunes apps store are band applications. I'm looking at one for Muse which has direct access to their forums, tour maps, a direct link to their store, a video player etc etc etc. And the cost isn't astronomical, either. Here's a link so you get the idea: http://itunes.apple....d355526817?mt=8 Even *gasp* David Guetta has an app.
I know there are some very vocal people here who abhor everything Apple, and everything iTunes and I understand that, I do... I'm not looking to brag at all, but I just wanted to share what I thought were really cool things. I am not sure what apps are available for smart phones like the BlackBerry, Palm Pre etc but I can't help but think this market has so much potential for the Chems to tap into to help evolve in an industry that's no only fickle as shit, but constantly in motion.
So - anyone have applications like the ones above. What are your thoughts on projects like these for the Chems?
