well with the beatles being discussed on one of the other threads on this forum. and this band being one of the favorites and most highly praised bands of the chemical brothers it got me thinking...

in my cd and record collection i have a few stolen albums of the beatles (thanks mum and dad, but you haven't noticed!!) now while some of their work is revolution(9)ary some of their songs don't do it for me. what would be super cool is if there was a compilation of there greatest tune. but not a compilation chosen by the money making suited board room people but a compilation chosen by us!! the people who love music

i dont know if this is gonna work, i don't know how well you lot know there catalouge. but if we get enough suggestion we might have enough for the compilation and then think how we would sequence the tracks.

just for the record i'm not suggesting anyone distributes any compilation cd that we come up with, nor am i recormending you make a compilation outta tunes you download off of soulseek. if it works it'll be a collection of cool tunes for me to listen to in the car. its just a bit of fun, it might work it might not, its january and i'm bored

so the obvious tunes

tomorrow never knows

sgt peppers lonly hearts club band (anti nazi mix)

across the universe (from the paris mix, sonically beautiful)

tunes i love

a day in the life (sgt peppers)

helter skelter (white album)

and know i'm gonna emerse myself in the beatles and see what gems i find
I'm a fuckin doughnut

What a fun idea! Are you going to be mixing these together like you did the Chemical mix? :D

The great thing about the Beatles is there's so much to choose from! Don't have enough Beatles in my collection but I do have my favorites for sure. I like the obvious choices you have as well as your suggestions. Now here's a few of mine (besides Tomorrow Never Knows which I've been touting in that other thread):

Taxman

Here Comes the Sun

Good Day Sunshine

Revolution

Come Together

Dear Prudence

--And for sheer camp value:

Magical Mystery Tour

Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds

Yellow Submarine (my son requested that!)

And a nod to Lennon:

Imagine (typical yes, but for good reason it's still a standout beautiful song that can never be dated)

It's all not bad, but for me, the undoubted greatest record they did for me is the Yellow Submarine soundtrack :)

Beatles were my 1st love....

followed by Pink Floyd, Led Zep, Bob, Lou Reed....... the Chems 8)

You can totally hear some Beatles influence in some Chems tracks.

John wrote all the good tracks apart from a few nice ballads from Paul and the occasional excellent track from George. While John was writing crazy acid trips Paul was still writing itty bitty pop songs.... When I'm 64 :?

(I'm finally getting around to posting again)

The Beatles are just great, needless to say. A lot of the songs people have talked about here are from the white album. To me, that album is like the chem's surrender (I should say it the other way around) since those two share a common region of being very eclectic and having a powerful effect on you the more you listen to it and get used to it. Rolling stone said Srg. Pepper's... is the best album of all time.... how can they have the white album be 10, i like that way better!

RS's 500 was lame and biased.
He put on a turn-down collar, a black bow, and wore his Sunday tail-coat. As such, he looked spruce, and what his clothes would not do, his instinct for making the most of his good looks would.

The problem with any kind of poll/best of, especially if it's done up by magazine music critics (many of whom don't share the same opinions as normal people hehe) is that for some reason we're obliged to take those opinions as facts - even when simple logic and subjectivity tell us otherwise. ;)

I have my own opinions of Rolling Stone but I'll save it for another time.

My favorite Bealtes record always will be Revolver - for me it will hold the #1 spot as far as Beatles records go.

At least Q Magazine agreed with me! ;)

RS500 was made up by various people, including Britney Spears. RS blames her for any shit choices.

^ Don't tempt me into spewing my opinions on Rolling Stone magazine... and why they felt the need to consult Britney Spears' *eh hem* musical knowledge!!!

Indeed a good tune - I love the orchestrated string parts, a pretty cool classical approach to a rock song especially during that time.

Wasn't there something about BT not wanting to work with Britney because of her music collection? X-D

I haven' heard that, but I wouldn't doubt that it's true!

I read that at one time, Britney Spears didn't even know who Paul McCartney was. Hello? Paul McCartney!!!

That was a while ago, early in her career but even still. To be in the music business and not know who Paul McCartney is, well - that's just sacreligious.

A couple of years ago, The Sugababes (UK pop act) did a cover of a Gary Newman track (not Cars, fortunately) and they said later on that they didn't even know who Gary Numan was!! :o If an artist does a cover of a song by someone else (especially someone as influential as Newman), they should at least know who the original was by!!
