I just picked this up yesterday, great buy! I've always wanted to own a Run DMC record. I really like their music, especially their powerful, well-contructed beats, meaningful lyrics and a cataclysmic collaboration that changed music as we know it (sounds like anyone we know?! 8) ). There are some songs on here too that sounds like Morning Lemon except with rapping. Just a cool collection of beats overlaid with vocals. I think it's a good buy, but is it a fitting farewell for Jam Master Jay? Usually greatest hits have a bonus disc with rare songs/b-sides/videos/remixes but there is no such thing here, just 19 tracks of audio. It's still good but I think it could be better. I am a complete beginner when it comes to Run DMC but I really like their sound and their music, a truly worthy and clever hip-hop group. However, I was a complete beginner when it came to the Chems, but I bought their greatest hits and well, look at where I am now! 8) :D

Run DMC should always be known as worth hip-hop... I remember when they did that collaboration with Aerosmith, Walk This Way, and it really caused quite a storm both good and bad. Back then, rock being infused with hip-hop was almost unheard of on a mainstream level (thanks to MTV who played the video regularly) or at the very least, out of the norm for both genres - both bands got a lot of flak from their fan bases for it. But I think what they did was quite revolutionary, it showed that music should know no bounds, that it's possible to bring two types of music on complete opposite ends of the spectrum together. That whole Walk This Way ordeal is what sticks out in my mind the most.

As far as what Run DMC record is the best, I won't pretend I'm some kind of Run DMC expert - I am really at a loss, to be honest I was never that into them. Like anyone new to an artist with a large back catalogue, a good way to get your feet wet is to get a compilation or best-of, or singles. It's a good starting point. Where you go from there is totally up to you. :)

ed seems to be doing a bit of a run dmc tribute when i saw him at wolves. he was wearing the cleanest classic 'dmc' style pair of adidas trainers (or sneakers!!) i have ever seen.
