Yep - I remember. I will never forget that day. My mom called and woke me up, babbling and crying, not making any sense telling me to turn on the news. I had to be up for work anyway, so I turned on the television right in the final moments before one of the towers fell. It was so surreal - like a movie with special effects. My husband and I were just dumbstruck but my son was so little back then, he was playing with his toys totally oblivious. I was working at Tower Records and I too was looking forward to that day because I could buy It Began In Afrika. I had also heard it for the first time at Coachella a few months prior, and the release of that single was special because the song had been in high demand - it was a ltd release. But honestly, that was not the time or place to be thinking stuff I want. It Began In Afrika was forgotten in all the mayhem and brought down with the tower when I saw it collapsing on my television screen. I finally got to my work, which shared a building with a high end home electronics store, and stood with everyone else including customers, watching the news - replays of the buildings smoking and collapsing, playing out in perfect synchronization on all the televisions. It was disturbing and horrifying. On the other side of the building I had music at my disposal but it didn't mean jack. Around 11:30, some security people came to our building and told us to go home since all business in the area were being ordered to shut down for the day.

I didn't get the single until I came into work the next day, when every one was still in shock over the day before. I don't associate it Began In Afrika with the horrible events of the day it was released here in the US. I don't see why I should because that song as well as all music I enjoyed provided a lot of comfort and escape.

I must've been five when it happened. I had no idea what was going on then. When I was old enough to understand and saw the replays again, I was nausious. Absolutely terrible, I'm still stunned by the devastation.

@whitenoise, It is just weird to see that you must have been 5 at the time. Sorry but its hard to think that 9 years are gone already and now the world has gone haywire in a totally different way.

I remember hearing Star Guitar for the first time around then and loving it to bits. I slightly remember IBIA, but I wasn't so in to it at the time.

I didn't have much of a 9/11 experience. I was a 7th grader in middle school, so that means I was... 12 or 13 years old I think.
I remember that I was in my science class when it happened, and I think we switched on the TV--I remember watching it. We left for home early, and I remember feeling a bit confused. My teacher told us that this incident was like when she was in school and the televised shuttle explosion occurred.

I suppose I don't have much emotional value attributed to the event, unless I try really hard to consider what it must have been like to be on the plane during the last moments before it hit the building, know that you were going to die. Posted Image
But, for me personally, in my shoes it didn't bother me that much, and I can't really associate it with anything other than school, which I despised to an extent at that point in time.

You mean Stephen Fry, the English actor?

I just remember that the music stopped in all the radio stations, except for one crazy DJ who was playing Smoke in the Water. And a lot of crazy moroccan guys in the streets yelling crazy stuff.

It seemed the world had come to its end...To be fair, I was in a difficult personal situation, so I didn´t pay a lot of attention. We lived a dèja-vu in Madrid years after, then I was more aware of the situation.

I was 16 at the time and remember coming home from Sixth Form (so about 3pm UK time) and my dad telling me all about it. I think I switched the news on shortly after the second tower had fallen. I think I had the news on until 7pm or something, watching as more info came in, the home videos were particularly unsettling.

I was on holidays, sleeping on the floor of a holiday flat with the TV on. Woke at about 3am up to the news ... kept watching and saw the towers falling as it happened. It was surreal at the time, like it couldn't possibly be true. Something I'll never forget ... Horrible.
Further Remixed There's nothing else...

I've been searching high and low for an interview I *know* I read around the time the Chems went to New York to play Centro Fly. It was just a couple of months after 9/11 - they were asked what they thought... like, where they were when they heard the news, and if the they were concerned it might be too soon after such tragedy for people to indulge in something like going to a club. If I remember they said something along the lines of being glad to help give people a good night and a good moment of escape, during such a heavy time. But. Of course I can't freakin find the interview now!

We get it, OK? You don't need to say you're a conspiracy theorist dozens of times over.
