Watched an episode. Humor is pretty flat and lame for me... Nice punsh lines, though.

In a way, it's on purpose. When it first aired I watched series one and thought it was ok, so I didn't bother with series two until I was told by my friends I SHOULD watch it, so I did and absolutely loved it. So then I revisited series one and found it to be brilliant. I think it just took me a little time to get used to the style of comedy because Linehan has his own style and I'd been watching a lot of of the new popular "cringe comedy" inspired by The Office.

Talking of which, did anybody watch Gervais/Merchants recent TV series called Life's Too Short? It was terrible! I am a huge fan of the writing duo so I don't know what went wrong here. It felt like it was trying to be cringe worthy, which made it cringe worthy but not because it was cringe worthy, but because they were trying to make it cringe worthy, which made me cringe. I guess as a resident of America he has lots touch with his roots and what actually makes people laugh. He used to do a lot of fat jokes, but he can't do them anymore as he's now Hollywood buff!

You may be right here. It was just a first glance impression, so further episodes might be funny enough to catch my interest. But from what I saw so far the primary focus there is on physical humor, I presume, which I'm not too fond of. It can be fun at times but most of the time it bores me. I think The Office is a good counterexample. Haven't seen a lot of the Original but in Germany we've got a popular adaption of it which is quite good. I like the subtle and dry wit there.
I know, it must sound korky because it's so hyped, but I really dig the first 4 seasons of the Big Bang Theory which I accidentally discovered last year. It's got mainly good writing and the story's premise is refreshingly cool: nerd's and skirts :D. Season 5, however, turned out to be a little lame and more childish in parts.

Well the slapstick moments like falling over stuff confused me a bit, I hate stuff like that but to me I think he put it in there because it was a poke at the comedy snobs, and laugh tracks didn't really work anymore for the new age of high calibre comedy but he made it work and it kept its dignity. Or maybe I am just over thinking it :P

You should really watch the original The Office, it is just so real and I can't imagine anybody replicating the quality of every little moment. You don't have to like Gervais (I do) to appreciate the show, he is a brilliant actor in that role.

I didn't like Big Bang Theory, I did try but it really annoyed me. I do love the BBC series Bang Goes the Theory though, that's a science programme where they do cool experiments.

I found that episode with Johnny Deep hilarious Posted Image

Oh, and few weeks ago i finished watching BBC's Life, it is such a wonderful documentary! Remember that part when monkey breaks coconuts? The planning and technique it used? That was a real eye opener! Thanks again for pointing me in that direction Posted Image

The "Extras" bits were great, but the rest just didn't work for me. They said it was smarter than just exploiting a midget, but when there's loads of scenes of Warwick falling over then you begin to question that.

Well said, extras are good, and a few odd joke here and there, but it's more likely my lack of expectation of the series, since all i knew of Gervais is that he hosted Golden Globe awards and i didn't watch the office - (introducing Madonna) "And now queen of pop, no, not you Elton, sit down, she's all woman" Posted Image
Any thoughts on Modern Family? My friends are pestering me with it for quite some time, saying its a good show and "you need to see it"; is it? I'm too lazy to go through 3 seasons of it...

Yeah, one of the few shows on TV that I can say I legitimately enjoy. That ABC comedy lineup is great.

Ha well i'm a big fan of Married with Children, i'm watching it again (on season 4 now) and I was told that Modern Family will fix the hole in my life when I finish watching it. I guess I will have to look it up now :(

Why didn't you watch The Office? It is the best comedy series of all time. Fact. At least try their second tv series called Extras.

I am currently watching 15 Stories High on Netflix before I have to cancel my account. It's two series (12 eps in all) about a life guard who lives in a flat with his oriental flatmate. It's 'kin brilliant  It's one of those alternative British comedies, not many people saw it and I didn't even know Sean Locke (writer/star) had written a show until he was on a late night talk show that nobody watched either. Worth your time if you like British alt comedies.

Speaking of holes in my life. Now that there's no more Downton Abbey for god knows how long... yeah, not really a show I would expect you gentlemen to watch but I quite enjoy the masterpiece theater and a good period costume drama series. A bit of 6-degrees-of Chemical-Brothers trivia. "Fake Marissa" from Hanna is one of the main stars.

Mad Men is coming back. I'm looking forward to looking at Don Draper...

I remember that The Office aired here few years ago, seen like half of one episode and it didn't quite catch my attention, but I will check it out since you speak so highly of it

Do you have good dubbing in Croatia, or do you have only subtitles with the originales? Sometimes I'm turned off because of a bad synch.

Thankfully they air originals with subtitles; few series for kids got dubbing, with hilarious sync Posted Image

Excellent, let me know what you think when you give it more time. It's not in your face like the american version, and there is no "setup-punchline". It's so brilliant, it could be a real documentary.

I dislike both of these. Awkward comedy, close ups of reactions, it just isn't funny anymore. It's too forced. It all feels like they are trying to emulate The Office.

My favourite clip of the US version of The Office is when they're sitting in a meeting room and watching a screen saver.
