Ok - so on another thread I said (after first listen) that The Salmon track was the worst thing they had ever done.
After second listen just now I got it. Its still not mind blowing or anything but I understand it now.
- Its funny
- It proves nice respite to be honest, if it wasnt there and i had to listen to the first five and burst generator my brain would have been in danger.
- Its different, I know the lads have done this sort of thing before, they went for a quirky funny rap and I know they prbably did it to keep things fresh I just dont think they quite pulled it off.
I just wanted to put the record straight after i said what i said after hearing first time.

This tune is smarter than everything else they've done before: not because it's a complex song but an ironic statement to all this "fuck-bitch-I'm the coolest-candy shop-hey!-homeboy"-rap that's outhere nowadays. I mean listen to that tingling melody that pops in, it's got such an ironic sound. You could say synchronously to its up-down melody "ha ha ha ha ha ha", ya know?.
Apart from this I think they captured the way a fish could move quite kewl. That synthline with Fatlips singsang is ingenious! Sounds so bitter-sweet, a bit melancholiac (as a salmon life is).
You should always listen to it with a twinkel in your eye. I myself was laughing my ass off when I was listening to it the first time. Not because it was ridiculous but I could see Tom 'n Ed laughing with me together!

Ok folks it seems we are all wondering what the "salmon dance" actually is?
Well could it be that the "Becks Vier" advert thats on UK Tv at the moment has the 3 cartoon Characters and 1 man actually doing a dance with a wiggle etc etc in it and the lyrics have something like "do the dance, can you do the dance" now as Becks are sponsoring the gig in London it may be possible that its a subliminal advert ????
and if not then the Becks dance should be adopted LOL ;-)

A cheeky monkey track!
I like it. I think it has quite a lot of angles you can choose from ... comedy track, sneer at ganstarap, children's song, a sarcastic take, ... and on top of that it grooves nicely.
I vote The Salmon Dance for the next single and an accompanying video made by Spike Jonze! Something for the MTV to stuff up their pipes!

I really like the Salmon Dance. So does my son. He digs it! What's amusing (besides the content and delivery) is that it's this little humorous break in an otherwise heavy and intense album. The only other track on We Are The Night that has a more easy going feeling is Das Spiegal. Even Modern Midnight Conversation, despite it's funkiness - that's a pretty heavy track. Salmon Dance is like a breath of fresh air, a needed break.
We Are The Night is very much a journey for me. It's like a good night out, a good night that has it all. Salmon Dance to me signals the part of the evening where things start going a bit silly. You know when someone's trying to have a serious conversation with you, you're slightly interested but all you can say is "wow... wow... amazing... oh... such a shame".
Anyway. I think the Salmon Dance was the result of trying to come up with a track about how in life you're always swimming upstream, and you need to take a moment to surrender to the void and swim downstream. Or something to that affect (from what I gathered in an interview with Tom). Needless to say, the final result didn't quite turn out as planned.

The Salmon Dance is about that point in the evening when you're so high you can only sit there and nod and agree with whatever the guy next to you is babbling, because that guy has (as evidenced by the occasional snorting noises by Fatlip) all the coke.
In this case the guy with the coke happens to be a salmon.

ROFL... dude the Salmon dance is about, how pointless the life of Salmon are, how in-tune with the world they are, and how they only make GREAT FOOD in the end.
It's funny you guys think it's mostly about drugs.. hehe...
I'm thinking it's trying to prove a point about how Salmon are great creatures, created for a single puropse, then they TURN RED AND DIE.
So like Fatlip says "WHOs HUNGRY?"
Anyone else feel me there?

hehe, for sure.
Like I was saying, it gives a great explination on the sad existance of salmon... It foreshadows a good ammount of realistic purpose... possibly a little bit of the future of the human race.. by personifying a salmon, and giving it a voice.. It makes it more human, thus making it easier to see what it would be like If humans were salmon? WEIRD I know, but It's not the most normal song..lol
BTW, Kickass signature Chemicalfire_07... It's great, I saw someone else on here who has like mugshots of Tom and Ed when they were younger? lol
totally great!!
