My christmas present for the folks around here! A simple and positive song!

Conventional Retro Groove (length: 3:26, size: ~4,7Mb)

A short sample from the song (length: 0:17, size: ~400kb)

Once again, all sounds are created by me and I would like some comments thank you. :)

Very... very... interesting.

Good instrument useage... just a little too off-beat/jazzy for me. I liked how it went from very simple to more complex....

Hey all,

If anyone cares I've done a remix of 'dub be good to me' in kind of an acid acoustic soul styleee - find it here:

www.musicv2.com/artist/mippio

It's the superseagull mix, as yet unmastered.

Also on the site is Mippio's chilled Loungeathon, a dubby chill out mix I did. Its pretty good as well (i reckon ;))

Nice one :D

The first half of the seagull mix is excellent. Smooth, works well, complete quality. The second half isn't as put together. The keyboard repetition is kind of headthrobbing. Excellent mix all around tho.

Wow. The Loungeathon is really excellent. A nice slow DJ Mix... well put together. Very relaxing.... or good for background music to a cocktail party. Nice. You've made it into my iTunes catalog. :)

wow! cheers evermin :-// thats cool, cheers for taking the time to listen :)

loads of people have commented on the wrongness of the piano's, it's not a finished article yet (still unmastered) so I might go back and put a honky analogue synth line in instead :)

it's an honor to be in your catalogue! :) (if you want a track list let me know)

Cheers

Mips

What do you mean by "unmastered?" I've heard of various meanings.
He put on a turn-down collar, a black bow, and wore his Sunday tail-coat. As such, he looked spruce, and what his clothes would not do, his instinct for making the most of his good looks would.

by unmastered i mean I haven't put it through a soft knee compressor or limiter, i haven't eq'd the 'master' mix (though touch wood i shouldn't need to do too much of that) and generally tried to play it through as many systems as possible to see if theres any areas of the sound whiuch need to be addressed.

tbh it's not properly mixed yet either - i haven't eq'd the individual tracks yet or mixed it down properly into a proper master for mastering (if you know what i mean!!) - its the first tune ive ever fully written, so i wanted to get some production opinions on it as it stands - which parts need to be bought out, which don't work so well etc etc - and i';ve got some really good feedback to work with!! :)

pertsonally, i think the prescence is good, its a little lacking it top end and the lower to upper mids are a bit crowded - thats the area which needs some eq'ong, buyt i find the cubase sx eq's a bit shit tbh. and the voice ets a bit shrills sometimes as well, and the strings could do with thickening up. but other than that im quite happy with it!! :)

gotcha - thats what I thought you meant. Speaking of the vocals, I think they could do well with some warmer low tones and have a more space-ee feel to 'em (some sort of light, inoffensive reverb).

Downloading and saving now, mippio - I look foward to listening (or at least being able to listen intently with no interruptions!)

So Liz Hurley's grandad likes cheese toasties, eh? ;)

mippio, real nice job so far - agreed with what's been said about needing to be remastered, but that's not a criticism by any means. The piano isn't really so bad but perhaps a bit too twinkly with the slow groove of the song, it tends to butt heads with the vocals (which do sound a tad tinny but that's not really an issue as the track is unfinished) - but back to the keys - maybe take the piano down an octave and see where that takes you...?

hey peeps,

cheers for your comments! :) i agree with the bit about the vocals, i tried to scuzz it up a bit, you know make it a bit lo-fi, but i agree, i think think it'd work better with a full silky vocal, so I'll get to it. :) re whirlygirl, i think if i dropeed the keys an octave they'd become very simillar in frequency to the strings and the two would start clouding each other - i've put quite a lot of effects on them so i might take some of them off and maybe thin the sound out a bit, and if that doesn't work i might just stick a squeaky synth line in there in a dubby stylee!! :) problem is as well is that im not a keys player really, my mate described it 'like someone falling asleep on the keyboard but playing the right notes' !! which i thought was a pretty apt description :)

and yeah, I used to work at an airfield in hampshire (UK) and liz hurleys grandad used to come in every fridy for lunch. his name was george tit, he was cool, very ancient and very eccentric, he did love his cheese toasties!!

Mips :)

you could always try EQ'ing the piano if you can't get it to sit right....
