PLATINUM CLUB CULTURE ICONS

THE CRYSTAL METHOD

ANNOUNCE NEW STUDIO ALBUM WITH

‘DIVIDED BY NIGHT’

DUE OUT MAY 12, 2009 VIA TINY e RECORDS

FIRST SINGLE “DROWN IN THE NOW” FEATURING MATISYAHU;

OTHER GUESTS INCLUDE EMILY HAINES, JUSTIN WARFIELD,

JASON LYTLE, PETER HOOK, SAMANTHA MALONEY,

LMFAO AND MEIKO

DUO TO MAKE THEIR FIRST LIVE PERFORMANCE IN 5 YEARS AT COACHELLA FRIDAY, APRIL 17

With their upcoming DIVIDED BY NIGHT, electronic music pioneers THE CRYSTAL METHOD (TCM) are dropping what may be their masterwork. Bolstered by the innovation, flexibility and craftsmanship that have made the duo of Ken Jordan and Scott Kirkland club culture icons, the pair’s fourth studio effort--due out May 12, 2009 via Tiny e Records--is easily its most inventive and accomplished to date.

Launched with the momentous first single “Drown in the Now,” The Crystal Method’s infectious collaboration with mic master Matisyahu, makes a unique and memorable musical statement. “We met Matisyahu at a festival in British Columbia last July,” Scott Kirkland explains. “His tour manager approached us about him joining us onstage for a song and we thought it was a cool idea. He came by our trailer and we played him 'High Roller' off Vegas [the duo’s 1997 album] and he thought it was great. He came out with us about an hour later and his performance was magical. From there we knew we wanted to work with him. He delivered something unique that helped create a great vibe for the rest of the album.”

Elsewhere, “Kling to the Wreckage” is equally breathtaking, albeit remarkably different, as She Wants Revenge frontman Justin Warfield puts his fierce delivery atop an exhilarating soundscape. High caliber guests on Divided By Night–in addition to Matisyahu and Warfield–also include New Order bassist Peter Hook (on the groove-laden “Gloomy” and “Dirty Thirty”), Metric front-woman Emily Haines and drummer Samantha Maloney, formerly of Hole and Peaches (on the hook-injected “Come Back Clean”), indie chanteuse Meiko (on the atmospheric “Falling Hard”), one-time Grandaddy frontman Jason Lytle (on the optimistic “Slipstream”) and hip-hop up-and-comers LMFAO (on the party anthem “Sine Language”).

In conjunction with the release of Divided By Night, THE CRYSTAL METHOD will return to the road this spring for a major national tour as a live band. “This new tour is going to be a completely new look,” Ken Jordan assures. “It’s like tearing down your house and rebuilding it.” Fans who attend the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival on Friday, April 17 will get to experience what their tour will be like as The Crystal Method will perform their first live show in five years. The duo will also be appearing at SXSW to highlight new material with an exclusive DJ set. Details regarding a North American live show tour will be unveiled at a later date.

Since 2004 when The Crystal Method unearthed its Grammy nominated disc Legion of Boom, Jordan and Kirkland have been busy building their state of the art Los Angeles studio, Crystalwerks; keeping audiences entranced with their high energy DJ sets; rocking the airwaves of the recently defunct Indie 103.1 with their weekly ‘Community Service’ radio show which seeded two mix albums of the same name; and steadily constructed what can only be deemed the album of their career.

Notorious over the last ten-plus years for enduring dancefloor anthems (“Now Is The Time,” “Keep Hope Alive” and a dozen others), airwave smashes (“Trip Like I Do”, for one), a willingness to collaborate with an array of talent –including rock’s vocal elite, like Scott Weiland and Filter’s Richard Patrick–the duo also managed to succeed in the remix, film soundtrack, television, gaming and advertising worlds. Their platinum-status debut album Vegas (released in 1997) is one of the biggest selling electronic albums of all time, landing them in the top five of best selling electronic acts in America. They scored the film London, as well as the themes for TV shows “Bones” and “Third Watch” and were the first act to work with Nike for their running soundtrack series, but it’s Divided By Night that takes TCM to all new heights.

Whether it’s bringing in live drums or lining up collaborations with talents from the vast spectrum of pop sub-genres, The Crystal Method--veterans of world famous festivals like Coachella, Ultra Music Festival and Rothbury --has managed to put a distinctly American face on the European-dominated electronic movement.

Kewl. I'll always give a new Crystal Method release many, many listens.

That being said, I still think they peaked with their debut "Vegas". Hopefully this one will be fresh and wonderful and make me eat my words.

Yes, definitely will check this out. I will always have a fond memory of when I bought Legion of Boom and Dig Your Own Hole (my first Chem's purchase) on the same transaction.

I listened to one of the tracks on YouTube. It motivated me to at least give it a fair listen.

I enjoyed Legion of Boom, and Vegas will always be my favorite of theirs.

And their live set has gotten better, too. Or, at least, from what I saw from the YouTube clips from Coachella.

I'm not too impressed. I'm going to give it a few more listens, but so far the good ones are:

Drown in the Now, Double Down Under, and Come Back Clean.

The rest are kinda alright to "Meh".

But I shall listen some more and see if it grows, as I don't want to slight one of my more favorite artists release.

I've given the album a listen.

i think overall it is a decent album. Although that being said it does have a few let down tracks such as Black Rainbows and Kling to the Wreckage. I guess the thing i don't like about those tracks are the lyrics don't suit, but the actual sounds TCM use are sweet.

Blunts and Robots is the song that screams "The Crystal Method are Back!" such a progressive but badass song.

other cool tracks i like are Come Back Clean, Smile and Divided by Night.

My friend has done a pretty decent mashup of Sine Language aswell... I might chuck it up online.

This album is definitely a first day buy for me :)

P.S

kicks the shit out of Drive and London Soundtrack

I had a full listen through the album and I am impressed. I was going in with very low expectations and was pleasantly surprised.

agreed prochem =)

What im looking forward too now is their live act. I managed to see them at Big Day Out about 2 years ago, however they were only performing a DJ set ( pretty good set though). It would be interesting to see their actual live set, as i think they would have a very similar set up to the chemies...except less grand lol

I do like this album.

Someone mentioned Black Rainbows... I liked that one but I wish, I WISH they were able to get the singer from Ladytron. It just seems meant for her style. Anyways, it helps if this album is played loud.

I haven't given the album a full listen, but I did like Dirty Thirty. Peter Hook's bass isn't bad.

i couldn't stand the singers voice in black rainbows :(

its probably my least favourite song. I mean the background music is cool but the singing style just doesn't fit well with the crystal method.

Both songs featuring Peter Hook are great. I'd never heard of him before so i think i might check out his stuff.

Not sure if you're kidding or not about Peter Hook.

He co-founded Joy Division and was the bass and electronic percussion for New Order. Check out Joy Division's 'Substance' and New Order's 'Substance 1987' and 'Singles'. All three are hits compilations but give a good feel for the history of the bands. 'Substance 1987' is pretty much a prerequisite for a classic electronic music collection. It was definitely the first album I ever owned that contained all 12" mixes.

As for Divided By Night, I need to listen to it a few more times before forming a solid opinion. Scratch that...I need to listen to it loud in the car and then later on headphones with some weed...then I'll know how I really feel about it.

Yeah, I thought the name Peter Hook sounded familiar. Thats really awesome; I miss New Order.

Other than Warfield and Matisyahu, I don't know the other guests on the album.

Jittem...s'all good. I certainly don't know the name of every member from every band I enjoy. I thought Hook's lineage was worth mentioning since he's been so influential.

Now puff puff give, motherfucker...

Doobie of doom? Satur8 smiles, takes his two puffs, and passes to the left...back to Jittem.

At this rate, Divided By Night is gonna be the best album ever!
