Ireland biggest and supposedly best music festival was marked by huge campsite riots,and beatings handed out by the security staff who were "calming" the situation.



i wasn't there, but sat night and sun night saw tents being ransacked,set on fire,security towers being torn down(these things are tall fucking towers!) and people being mugged for their money and phones. security, as expected couldn't handle it and as they regrouped on the sunday morning decided to "clear" one of the campsites, an excuse for these scumbags(90% of who have had no training and are themselves criminals, i have worked with them so i know) to go in and kick the shit out of any one they came across.



now the riots and muggings were most probably started by the large amount of travellers or pikeys that always attend the festival for the soul purpose of robbing, but escalated to the other scum bags there.



this just highlights the shambolic organisation,and disregard for safety of the event promoters MCD,who are part of the worlds largest promtors and media owners clearwater who own most radio stations in america.



this is just me basically highlighting the level of shit you put up with in ireland. you can go no where with out some pikey hassling you. at least i know i can look after my self but when sick blokes pull a knife on a girl who isn't even from ireland to rob her tent then its a fucking disgrace.

Yes, I knew things would be bad at Oxegen at this year. Unfortunately, the organisers, MCD, who are owned by Clear CHANNEL, not clearwater, don't give a flying fuck about the safety of concert goers. As has already been pointed out, the 'security guards' are just as bad as the thugs, only they can cause shit legally. They are yobs picked out of the most backwater and crummiest parts of Dublin and Ireland. Oxegen in my mind is a cynically masterful exercise in money grubbing when you consider that a pint of watered down lager is 5 or 6 euro when its normally three fifty in your local, a breakfast roll, which consists of an unbuttered Bundy roll with a sausage in it is a tenner, and a shitty necklace with laminated timetable cards costs a tenner too!



However, I would like to point out that this is not representative of Irish concert goers at large. Oxegen appeals to the lowest common denominator, and the lineup was seriously uninspired and pandering to the charts this year, rather than looking for actual good bands. I mean there was a fucking NME stage, need I say more... This in turn is going to attract the yobs and thugs..



The Electric Picnic, hosted in Co. Laois, is a viable alternative, styling itself as an alternative music festival. The atmosphere is generally more chilled out, and the company who run it, Aiken promotions, are generally regarded in high esteem by muso fans countrywide. The alternative vibe which the festival sells itself with is an effective filter against the knacker brigade and skanger/chavocracy you see at oxegen.. Just a thought
