Well I have to say, Pooter, that's an interesting perspective which is cool because hopefully your friend can look to you and find some solace in that pearl of wisdom in the days and months ahead.

The initial shock of such an event is such a hard hurdle to get past.

As I may be adding years to my age, I'm not quite as old as I think I am, yet. Despite my exhausting weekend, I still managed to go out and party a bit the last two nights. :D Good times!

@Biff: What was the name of the Elastica album that you threw on on the way down?

The Menace, you had a one in two chance of getting it right...

question for the audience: why am i getting more energy as i get closer to friday? my days have gone by perpetually faster at work even though i am doing the exact same thing every day... well can't complain!

You're under 30, man. As soon as you breach into middle-age, you start -losing- energy as you get toward Friday. ;-)

And as long as you don't hate your job, consider it a blessing that your week goes by quickly.

I work more on the weekends now. My only 2 days off are the only days where I can recharge. If i'm at home, I get tired very quickly, so I need to be outdoors alot or do something that gets my attention.

30's go by very fast. Especially when working,so stay out late on your days off and have much fun as humanly possible because you can have a shitty work week but you can make it up on the weekend. So when you come back to work on Monday, you can at least smile when your co-workers ask you 'How was your weekend?'

Going to work tonight and back the next morning.

Stay thirsty my friends!

Sounds like you're trying to find a good balance. :)

I'm absolutely frustrated with one of my co-workers right now. The story is absolutely lame, and it comes down to him being an ass for expecting work to be done in an orderly fashion when all available people to get the work done had twenty other things to do. He's nearing fifty and sometimes tries to carry more authority around than he actually needs; it's kind of like having Bill O'Reilly trying to be the boss when he's not actually the boss.

If it needs explaining, I'll put more detail into it. As for now, I have to throw down on Tuesday. Tomorrow is a day off because all the attorneys are at a firm retreat this weekend through Monday. w00t.

30's do go by fast. In the blink of an eye. I find myself pausing for a little bit when asked my age.

The 30's is the age of responsibility which hits you like a ton of bricks, but it's also the age of the weekend warrior. Personally I've found my 30's both physically and mentally exhausting - I've long given up trying to chase the tail of my 20-something years because I don't have the time nor the stamina anymore.

So I have 40 to look forward to in a couple of years. Not sure how to think about that. I suppose I'll just be tired, but content in my memories. They don't call age 40 'over the hill' for nothing... ;)

Well men get better with age - over the hill or not, men age like a fine wine. The older they get, the more seasoned they are.

Women? They're either cougars or just plain old.

;)

Pooter...Balance is Everything! I love having some control of things that are situated around me. I just turned 35 recently, but I don't consider my self wise Whirls. Maybe when i'm 70 perhaps! Graysquire..It's not about how many candles you have on your cake bro. It's how many times you can blow out the candles!

I feel old now just by saying that.

I guess more Chem shows will keep me in check!

A meeting today with the office manager was enlightening.

I found out that my job isn't about me getting work done, it's about me being the end person responsible for a shitty, fucked-up system where other people are allowed to screw shit up and I'm not. It doesn't matter if other people left the details until the last minute and another person you're relying on ends up completely missing work that you give to her; all that matters is that it wasn't done on time, and it's my fault, period.

Fuck this firm. I'm looking for another job in Portland. I can only hope I get one by June so that I can give this place my two weeks, the finger, and a whole lot of bad energy to leave behind.

What?

Are you a team leader or something, Pooter? I don't know anything about your work environment but the law this so-called office manager is laying on you smacks of passing the buck, if you ask me.

The buck stops at the office manager, not at the subordinates.

That's bullshit that you're accountable for the work everyone else is doing.

Either your office manager has a funny way of appreciating and having faith in your ability to ensure the work gets done timely and correctly, or your office manager is lazy.

Fuck laziness in the workplace. With the economy the way it is, everyone on the production line should be pulling their own weight and should be held accountable individually for the work they put in as a team. But what are you going to do? The company has you by the balls until something better comes along.

In the meantime document every little screw up everyone else makes that you're blamed for. Then take it to your lazy office manager's boss when you get reamed for the poor work everyone else is doing. Seriously. document. Everything.

It's more like I'm accountable for the work that I depend on other people to do for me, and if they somehow screw up the process, even if it's completely out of my hands, I'm the one whose ass is on the line.

I don't get paid enough to be laid this kind of responsibility--that's all I know.

Good news on all fronts:

The job is toning down, while the job search is toning up.

I attended via phone my son's IEP meeting and he's going to be placed in a normal 1st grade class. As I stated on facebook, never in my life have I ever been so jazzed about being normal.

My girlfriend's mother is in the hospital, but she's okay. She's getting the treatment(s) she needs, and she'll be fine.

The dinner that I had on Saturday night was, and I'm not exaggerating, -flawless-. I went to Chèz Papa here in San Francisco, and I can tell you with certainty it was one of the best meals I've ever had in my life. Oysters on a half shell, Kobe beef tartare, a plate of artisanal cheese and meat, braised lamb, duck confit, and my entree was a pan seared Bluenose Bass with braised leeks, Meyer Lemon Beurre Blanc and black truffle emulsion. I also managed to have two lychee martinis made with absinthe, and for dessert an apple tart with french vanilla gelato.

:D

All in all, outlook is good. Hope all is well with everyone else.

For the record, when the Forum is down, it makes me feel like I'm missing an arm.
