First, I avoided any teasing and preview before going to the concert so as to be as much surprised as possible.
The beginning was similar to the last time I saw them in 2007.
Then, they dropped consecutively : Hey Girl Hey Boy - Don't Think - Out Of Control - Setting Sun. From then on, I was happy with this concert. After they played Believe and Surface to Air melted with Snow, I became extra happy.
Security didn't let me bring inside my old camera which record movie in SD but a lot of people filmed during the concert with their smartphones, so I am pretty sure Don't Think will appear on Youtube.
Very good audience, maybe the best audience I've seen in Paris.

Just went back too, had a blast !
I was really happy to hear, see, I mean experience Don't think live. It was one of my best Chems shows, even though I thought the encore was a bit too lenghty. Did anyone else hear the Rolling Stones sample at the end of the Reel ?

Now for a bigger review.
First, catching everybody was a nightmare. I didnt see bloke or wincent. I didnt even know innerwatch was coming (any chance it was you who asked us in english where the zenith was when we were on the stairs before the show ?).
So anyway i was with my friend, Chrisman, and other people from a french forum.
Galvanize started mad, the crowd was crazy ! I was surprised to hear Do it again right after.
Horse Power was fuckin mad, they added even more acid wickedness at the end.
So Chemical Beats came really naturally, the crowd was going crazy again.
Swoon too had more synth tweaking at the end, very nice
Star guitar ... Classic
Three little birdies down Beats ! Ive always loved that one so much. It was not as epic as in 97 but still pleasant.
I liked hbhg more than in London, and the new visuals are nice !
DON'T THINK ! My god this one was huge. And the "Don't thin ladder" referred to the visuals : hands climbing a ladder, during the transition to...
Out of Control/Setting Sun. I'm still a bit fed up of Out of Control. It should be shortenned a bit and Setting Sun should kick in more quickly. But it wqs still sick !
Saturate Believe were impeccable, as usual !
Escape Velocity is always wickedly wicked, twice more in live !
Then here comes a new guy : Superflash. There was a voice saying "Superflash", the visuals were camera flashes. All that with a technoid beat and an haunting high pitched voice singing "oooooh". Then the visuals were revolving lights, with a spot matching the color behind the screen, very nice effect !
The creepy children clowns, then the creepy giant clown saying "you are all my children noooow" with a deep loud voice. Awesome !
Leave home and brb ha nothing special
Snow sounded different, but still good. Surface to air blended perfectly with it, and it was beautiful.
Now we arrive to the only discutable point of the set : Hoops.
It is brought in very awkwardly in my opinion. It's very badly placed in the set. Surface to air ends, people are on a calm and relaxed mood, then hoops kicks in : people were not that much into it, not going ape crazy like during Dont think or Superflash. Let's add to that the fact that it's not as good as the 2002 to 2005 versions (except for the acid crazy part they added at the end), i was a bit disapointed and didnt really feel it. Then the transition to the reel was quite akward too, the Caroline vocals from dissolve were weird, the reel felt like it was missing something... And the visuals (from burst generator) were no match to the original visuals with the painted face and Jesus... I dont know it didnt felt like the REAL Reel (lol) it still was great to hear it but i guess Hoops spoiled it a bit. Ed if you read me, you really should consider placing Hoops somewhere else in the set (before/after superflash) and just playing the reel right after surface to air. Just my two cents but i really didnt feel it :)
Except for that, great great show ! The setlist was excellent !
Oh yeah and about that led tube, it's very nice, but it's sometimes a bit empty. I wish there was the old Galvanize visuals behind with the tube. And when they go in spiral and all, during Hoops for example, it looks awesome
I think I'm going to sleep now. Good night everybody !

The former Burst Generator visuals, given their circular nature seem good for the Reel. I was a bigger SSU fan for encore but that video has convinced me to want the Reel.
Seriously, how long is this show they play so much. Also for those of us bitchin' about wanting Don't Rhink, I think that video proved why they should have it!

Based on your description... Maybe K+D+B is a better track to play than hoops? It would carry the mood from Snow/S2A.
I think the Reel looks epic with the spinning dot BG visuals, but it does feel somewhat out of place. I've associated them with Burst Generator and not TPPR and those are two very different tracks, so it seems a little odd. Just give em time.

About visuals, ive never liked any hbhg visuals more than the old ones with those shaking "hey" "boy" "hey" "girl". Bring them back too !
booooo
I prefer square glasses guy. And the dancing guy. And the crary acid furniture. It's a lot better than the green wavy stuff they used before IMO, a lot more original and novel.
But I've never been to a chems concert before, so you prolly know what you're talking about more than I do.

Haha Ben_j, and your "leave home and brb ha nothing special" I suppose it's all a bit old hat to you, being a seasoned Chemical Brothers concert-goer n'all! I am glad you had a good time at the show. Even though you pointed out some things you didn't like, for the most part everything was grand, they played The Reel, you got to hear Don't Think and this Superflash monster, and the clowns and so many other things about this show were awesome! Thanks for taking the time to write a review. You must be dead tired.
be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle
