Well, I am in Houston. Yesterday was a long day spent in the air, in airports and in a strange town where country music is pumped continuously in the hotel lobby. Country music like, the kind of the twangy pop 'I got a BBQ stain on my wifebeater so my baby left me in my ford f150 and took my dog' country music. There apparently was a big rodeo more toward Houston proper yesterday which explains why there are so many folks in cowboy hats and pizza-sized belt buckles strutting around.
Anyway, this town I'm in is literally a medical village, as my niece said it's a Sick City instead of Sim City. For about a 2 mile radius its nothin but hospitals and medical centers, temporary housin for recovery, and hotels. With more medical pavilions specializing in this-and-that under construction and under way. I can see why people travel here, as this place apparently has a stellar reputation in the US medical community, especially when it comes to kidney transplants. I've spent a ton of time in hospitals but I have never been in a hospital with such an enormous wing devoted to nothing but kidney transplants. Welcome to Kidney Grand Central.
My dad is doing as well as can be expected after undergoing such invasive surgery not too long ago. There was a bit of a scare yesterday before I got into town, evidently the new kidney went into shock and stopped functioning - but by the time I arrived kidney function was improving and my dad was complaining about the shitty food, so normalcy is being regained and my dad will be back to his old crotchety self in no time. ;)
My mom is a bit of a wreck, and this whole ordeal has been hard. Thank god my brother, sis-in-law and niece are here too as we've been using each other as a buffer against the general craziness that comes in these types of situations. So that's that. I love you guys. I'm freaking exhausted.
