We'll welcome them all with open arms! Who cares if the forum is overrun with pikey, trance loving 14 year olds? We'll welcome them all!

Nah man, the only people who like trance aren't smart enough to use a computer to find this place

Now let's all have angry make-up sex and get it out of our system so we can be all lovey dovey again.

Seriously. Where's the love at??? Let's reserve the flaming for people that tuly deserve it - like trolls or people who come here intending to start shit. And flaming each other (ex: stash/Slipvin battles) is OK from time to time too because there's a sizable history between us all. X-D Coexist, people. There will be a time when the next album comes out and this place is going to be filled with trolls and people starting shit. Pool the resources, band together.

But for newbies or first timers, we all had to start somewhere. We were all new to the music and new on this board at one time. I like new blood, for purely selfish reasons: I'm interested in what they are willing to bring to the table because that in turn can provide a fresh outlook on things. I like the enthusiasm, too - it is much needed on slow forum days. Conversation is why I dig coming here. I like being able to answer questions or when someone challenges my view, and it's even better when someone else can jump in and offer their take. I don't understand the resentment toward newbies and why there is this unwritten rule that they have to be treated like shit upon entry.
be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle

I personally don't think it was that bad to begin with. He asked a question, it was answered. Slipvin said "Stay off the drugs" which really isn't that harsh at all. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen a serious post by Slipvin to a noob. If he said "stay off the drugs fuckhead" it would be a different story though.

But yeah, then there was talk about drugs, and then the thread starter started whining about being dissapointed with the forum. I mean really, if a thread I start turns to drug discussion, I call it a success X-D

I think it was a little harsh considering it was a poster who doesn't really come around much. For any of our regulars, it would've been perfectly fine.

Yeah I guess, but like, it was one comment out of 10 or so replies. People tried to answer his question, but instead he focussed on the one insult instead.

You're right in that it would have been better without the comment, but that's just how people are in any forum. Maybe we should start a n00b welcome thread or something, where it's a n00b bashing free zone. Make it a sticky, and put a note in the "New member read here" thread saying to post a hello in the noob thread first, and maybe ask obvious questions in there or something.

We DO have a Stickied 'new member' thread at the top of the page. And dekane isn't a newb, he's been around a while, just hardly ever posts. He was perhaps being a little too sensitive, but I do think we're often not friendly enough here.

Iggy, you in particular, this means you! You have me in stitches almost all the time (incl. when you're taking the piss out of newbs), but save the banter for those who are used to it!
