Neither Tom nor ed played the guitar in Hoops. I know they collaborated with someone, it says so in the album credits.

I remeber hearing that the guy who played guitar on hoops was classically trained. I thought I remeber tom and ed saying that in their CWU era interviews. Acoustic guitar in electronic music. GREAT!!! I miss when they played the guitar part right before they went into EBW6 live. I was going mad at that point at fuji.
