I know this appears in the sleevenotes on pretty much every Chems album released, but on Push the Button it says "Engineered by Steve Dub. Assisted by Ben Thackery....Mastered by Mike Marsh at The Exchange".
What is it these people actually do? Does what they do after the production is finished affect the music, or is it more to do with the record itself (if that makes sense)? I suspect its the latter but I thought some of you guys may be able to shed more light on it! ;-)
The illustrious Mike Marsh (no relation) seems to 'master' a lot of other artists' records, are there a lot of people in the business of 'mastering'?

They make the tracks while Tom & Ed run naked in the studio.
...and push their buttons . . .
yeah right, what else should they do? Music? No, annoying the masters & engineers who finally want to finish the fuckin' commercial album.

I believe mastering involves handling the levels- make sure the bass/treble etc. is universal on each track so you're not constantly playing with the levels in your car and such.
I could be wrong.
That's right mate, that's what mastering is (plus they get things as loud as possible). The engineers help with the mixing and processing of the track and sounds to get things top notch.
Assistants make the 'morning lemon' 8)

You make me remember a thing...
Does anybody think that "Come with us" has a BAD frequency equalization? The trebble seems too high... :?
It all depends on the speakers you're listening through. To me, it seems good but I don't have monitors and I think my speakers emphasise bass anyway (most sets do)

btw on almost every album they wish supa dope thanx, what means dope in that context?
Maybe they are thanked with dope
'Dope' is African-American street parlance for special/cool/shit-hot.... Have none of you heard of 'Back by Dope Demand'?? Sheesh!! X-D
