So, I really don't know how to explain all this easily without sounding like a completely nutcase, so I'll do my best.

I didn't know We Are The Night had come out until my friend (you know him as the elusive, rare-posting CyberFlash) came back from Germany last summer when it just been released. Originally, this all started when he told me an amusing story of him and his friend dancing to DIA randomly in a record store - where he eventually bought WATN because he liked the song so much. I didn't actually HEAR DIA until around the middle of August. (Don't ask why I hadn't heard We Are The Night had been released - I had just graduated, my head was all over the place. You can beat me up later.) Anyway, there it came, DIA blasting out of my speakers. The next thing I know, I'm on my bed, laughing uncontrollably. And I do mean uncontrollably; I couldn't stop.

We honestly didn't know what it really was at first - the story I had heard, maybe? It couldn't have been - the story's amusement faded but the reaction didn't. Soon, the laughing had subsided and it was down to my entire body tensing up when I heard it. And it continued to perplex both me and Flash. (Mind you, it is far from a bad feeling, which segways into this last part.) I think I've kind of figured it out:

The endorphin high you might get when you listen to a REALLY great song? ('Specially a Chem Bros song, I would suspect.) The euphoric experience? The total adrenaline rush? I must just get a huge one when I hear Do It Again. (I get blips of it when I hear, see or spell it like I just had to - now you know why I try to abbreviate it most of the time!) It seems incapacitating because it's a tad bit of an overload for my body? I'm still not sure, but it is pretty awesome. And a bit of a phenomena. Gives Get Your Self High a whole new spin.

Thought you guys of all people should know. And maybe understand - I dunno. Ask questions if you'd like. CyberFlash can vouch for me if it seems that unbelievable. =P

heh. I know those endorphins you speak of. If I had a nickle for everytime a song had some kind of amplified effect on my mind and body, I'd be able to retire by now.

I heard Do It Again (the extended mix) through a pair of really nice and stupidly expensive in-ear monitors shortly after I heard the song for the first time. Granted I was a little fucked up when I listened through those monitors, and the rip I had wasn't super great quality - but overall it was damn near sensory overload. Definitely brought things up to a peak again, my heart started beating really fast and I started prespiring even though I was otherwise relaxing on the couch. I haven't been able to hear Do It Again the same since that night. That one little listening experience changed my whole perspective on the song. And to think it had that effect on me even though the quality song I had wasn't optimum says a lot about how the Chems are able to craft a song.

I know there's always talk here about getting loaded and listening to the Chems because it amplifies the trip, and I like a good party every now and again too. But in reality I am sober 99.99% of the time when I hear the Chemical Brothers' music and there's just something about it that gives me a natural high and gets the adrenaline pumping.

The effect the music has had on me in other situations too have been as euphoric or trip-inducing in their own way. It's what initially drew me to the Chemical Brothers in the first place and I don't think my experiences are all that unique - plenty of people get the same things I do out of the music. It speaks volumes, I think.

The song wasn't that great to begin with, until Oliver Huntemann remixed it.

Josh Wink's mix of Everything in its Right Place does that to me.

Well, I certainly feel less freakish, Whirly. ^^; That's awesome, really. I can totally agree with getting a natural high of the Brothers' music. I mean, well, see last post. Hehe.

And, seeing as I tend to let curiosity get the best of me, I experiment a lot. By simply focusing more on the song, playing it super loud, ect, I can get super-adrenaline rushes I thought weren't possible. I'm also pretty positive that seeing it live in August is going to do something awesomely catastrophic to me. The lights, the music, the visuals - it's going to be complete overload and I can't wait!

Off topic but not - you can thank CyberFlash for finding this on the far reaches of the interwebs: The Daft Punk remix of DIA.

Don't worry, it just music. It just loads better on YouTube. I'm not sure where to get this, but I want it bad!

Don't think Daft Punk had anything to do with that mix. But know what you mean about the Chems music it has an energy and excitment that just makes me uncontrolably smile :)

Kinda agreed there; sounds a little like 'em, but not quite. Whoever did it, they did a really good job.

Oh! And I forgot to mention this earlier; if you guys recall the Bros interview on We Are The Night's CD (I'm sure it's all over the place, but that's where I saw it first), they were talkin' about how some describe their music as experimental in the way it affects people more than how they make it. DIA was mentioned specifically as a track that was completely two faced - hear it on the radio, it's a catchy tune, hear it in a club and it's mind blowing. I was thinking this before and everyone else on here 'fessing up to the mad endorphin rush the Chems' music seems to induce pretty much cements it; (and this is probably old news, but whatever) I can kinda agree with the experimental genre label - you hear a song and feel a completely natural physiological and mental reaction to it, there has GOT to be something there that's completely unique and different!

I'm so happy everyone can understand what's going on with Vorpal. I had a gut feeling inside me saying that'd be the case.

Daft Punk didn't mix that song? That's weird considering it's called the Daft Remix. Maybe it got mis-labeled.

hahaha, CyberFlash, I don't know why but when you put it like that, you make it seem like Vorpal has a medical or mental condition.

"Oh, you know Vorpal... he'll be all right. He's just got a lot of stuff going on in his head at the moment."

But yeah, we understand. :)

The Daft remix has made the rounds here a while back. I don't think it was miss-labelled, I think the name Daft Remix was intentional!

Don't believe everything you see on the internet, n00b.

Now... does anyone want to hear that killer Crystal Method track 'Blood Rave' from the Wesley Snipe movie 'Blade'? I also downloaded a killer Chems remix of Fluke's 'Atom Bomb' the other day!!

Whirly it's funny you say that because at first I kinda thought it WAS a condition. Haha.

And I hope I get to meet you at the Olympia concert in August! I've been meaning to say that but, as Vorpal puts it, I'm quite the "elusive" one. :)

Hahaha... ha. Condition. That's me, making Tom and Ed proud with music induced "conditions". XP Don't blame Cyber for thinking that though! I do seem borderline crazy sometimes. Maybe he thought it was an extension of my madness. :P But it's just good 'ol Chemical high. A... really intense one. Awesome. :D

And ditto on meetin' ya. :)

Friend of mine just broke what could cause extreme adrenaline rushes for me.

(I'm an EarthBound fan, too.) I wasn't sure if I should have posted this in the art thread, seeing as it isn't mine and it's just half Chemical related. So here it is. Put into a four month old thread. About how I have a psychological reaction to a song. Anyway. I have a hard time looking at it.

When I heard New Jack by Justice for the first time, I just stood up and danced. Then I repeated the process for 6 hours.
