the carling cup is where the sport is a today!! rugby is alright but football is better. and chelsea are looking hungry for victory
I hate Chelsea, they are only good cause they have money and have not built up there empire properly like Arsenal or Utd. Arsenal will do better next season.

Well, I have to concede that Chelsea earned their trophy. While Liverpool fought as best they could and had every opportunity to win, props to Chelsea for fighting back. Congrats.
(Also, I'm not jumping on the I-hate-Gerrard bandwagon, but really, where was he today? It sure wasn't in Cardiff.)

I enjoy watching rugby and playing it, but i prefere football still. Im never to bothered about the results as long as it is enjoyable to watch. However i am an Arsenal fan.
Talking of rugby, do you guys think that it is more of a mans sport that American football? Wearing all those pads(wimps)! Why did Americans call it football and rename proper football soccer?

Don't know if my opinion counts for much since I'm not much of a sports fan, and don't know much about it's history or rules.
But I've always wondered about why American football is called "football" and proper football was renamed "soccer."
Anyway. I do think Rugby is more of a blood sport than American football, definitely. Not a whole lot of padding going on there, and it is more agressive and entertaining to watch than American football (If I had to choose between the 2). Just not in the position to judge it's more of a man's sport - I dated someone for a long time who played American football all throughout high school, though he did turn down a scholarship to play college ball because he just couldn't continue to let the sport consume him. It was physically grueling, pads or not, and since his life centered around the sport, it was emotionally draining as well. Either way I'll leave this judgment to the men on board who know more about what goes into both sports than I ever will. ;)
be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle

The name "soccer" is derived from the term "association football", which is exactly what it was called once the rules of the game were codified into effect by the Football Assocation in the late 19th century.
American football's rules were not made distinct from rugby and other such sports until considerably later and thus retained the term "football". Of course, Americans couldn't possibly believe that THEY were the one's who had changed away from the game "football", so the name stuck.
I like watching rugby a fair bit and the idea of playing such a physical sport with very little padding definetly speaks a lot towards the courage of rugby players. The pace of the game is certainly a lot better than American football, too.
However, the sheer violence of the hits in American football is ridiculous. As ballsy as rugby players are, I wouldn't fancy many of them (in pads or not) to stand up to a tackle from Ray Lewis (never minding the fact that Lewis might stab them while in the pile-up and then snort a line of coke afterwards...).

I never said I liked American football (though I will watch it occasionally), just that it is almost certainly more violent than rugby.
NASCAR is definetly an activity for the intellectuals of the world. I can envision it now:
Redneck TV Analyst 1: "What's gonna happen next, Billy Bob?"
Redneck TV Analyst 2: "Well, Jimbo, they're a gunna go left. Then left. Then left. Then left. Then, hopefully, someone will forget which way to turn and we'll see a crash. Thanks to the Lord Jesus Christ for bringing us such a gosh-darned excited sport as NASCAR."
Ugh.... NASCAR is so boring I couldn't actually be bothered to be witty.
