This is a thread where you can post your favourite words, or where you can mention a word you came across that struck you as particularly interesting.

I'll start with three words today:

Crepitation: The sound of bones rubbing together.

Defenestration: The act of throwing someone, or something, through a window. (fr. the French word "fenetre" = window)

Versimilitude: The appearance, or semblance, of reality. Believable. (eg. That video game is so lifelike. It's verisimilitude factor is high.)

(Are you happy, Bosco?! X-D )

smurfing - The act of hitting someone across the face with one's penis

This old man,
he play beats,
He don't need no music sheets,
but with a snip-snip-snippy-snip
gave his mop a chop,
Old man hairstyles are a flop.

bwahaha! New thread idea coming in now..... thanks, Bosco!

Ironic, I have to say that in starting this thread, I used the improper form of the word "its".... for the second time on this board today, I might add. Grammar refreshers necessary now that I'm in science-based courses.... ugh.

Why am I not surprised this is your word of choice? X-D

Actually though, I totally agree: a great word. Very expressive. The overwhelming use of the word "fuck" has diluted its strength and potency in recent years. There is no disputing the spite and venom in a bitterly uttered "cunt", though. And using "cunt" with "fucking", as in "fucking cunt" or "cuntfucker", completely rehabilitates "fuck".

very true, i mean even on day time radio the odd fuck is heard on songs.

there's still a huge shock value with the word cunt, even though i use it at least 50 times a day. americans in particular have a huge dislike of the word cunt....

Do women on your side of the ocean find it particularly offensive, or is that also a North American thing?

hahaha, I suppose so. The overwhelming majority of ladies here find the word horribly offensive. It's just not a commonly-used word here. I find it ever so useful though... until I start getting evil looks from those around me.

Four to the floor

From Wikipedia,

Four to the floor or four-on-the-floor is a type of dance music characterized by a steady, uniformly accented beat in 4/4 time, popularized in 1960s, and disco music of 1970s. It is also known in country music.

Examples of this music type are disco, house, techno and trance.

This steady beat is usually maintained by the kick drum (bass drum).

When a string instrument makes the rhythm (rhythm guitar, banjo), all four beats of the measure are played by identical downstrokes.
