Magic Numbers make surpirse appearance with Chemical Brothers THE MAGIC NUMBERS have revealed to NME.COM that they will be performing the track 'CLOSE YOUR EYES' with dance outfit THE CHEMICAL BROTHERS at the V FESTIVAL in CHELMSFORD tonight (August 20).
The four-piece recently performed the track, which is taken off the Chems recent album 'Push The Button', with Ed Simons and Tom Rowlands during the duo's tour of the UK at Brixton Academy earlier this year.
Singer Romeo Stodart said: "We're really looking forward to playing with them again cos tonight will only be the second time we've done that track with them. We last played it at Brixton with them but it should be even more special tonight. We love those guys."
and of course ch4 or e4 didn't show it
The band drew one of the biggest crowds of the day at the Channel 4 stage earlier and Romeo said he was amazed at the huge turnout.
"We were totally surprised by the crowd and hearing everybody singing the songs. We weren't really used to that and it was great. The sound on stage was tremendous as well. I like the way it's (V) is organised. It's quite cool because things kind of run smoothly in terms of warming up. Usually we dont know what's happening. So it was a nice surprise," he added.
The band, who have had a difficult time lately after 'Top Of The Pops' presenter Richard Bacon made comments about their weight, confirmed that they would play on the show again despite the fact they walked off stage.
Romeo said: "In a way all thats kind of finished. We haven't even had time to even think about it."
Percussionist Angela Gannon added: "It was a low point for us. But then we went on to do a festival in Norway and that was amazing. We haven't got time to take anything in. We would play again if they asked us. There's no grudge. It was just what happened on that day."

apparantly they did not perform close your eyes on saturday due to technical difficulties according to the magic numbers forum. i like the way the nme reported the chems/magic numbers performance a whole hour before the chems went on stage!! they are apparently on for performing close your eyes tonight, but there a no cameras at the staffordshire site. what a bummer

Drudge style reporting on the part of NME... that is a bummer.
It is great to hear about the great responses the Magic Numbers are getting. And it's also really nice to hear how much they enjoyed performing with the Chems at Brixton.
Can't wait to see and hear this on the live dvd! ;) ;)

They have yet to catch on where I am. At least where I am, we've not sold one copy of their album yet.
At over $20, that's kind of steep for an debut album that's not getting a lot of press up here. I'd buy it but even with my discount (which isn't much for imports) it's still pretty steep. I want to hear the album in full before I plunked down that amount of cash.

that is one of the few songs that changed my life, i still remember the first time i heard it, triple j were playing tracks off the new album a moth or so before its official releace... i turn on the radio and hear:
"and here is a track off this weeks feature album the new chemical brothers album push the button, were going to take a listen to a track called close your eyes, your listening to triple J"
and I hit record and lay on my bed and almost cried, it was beautiful. it was one of the few songs i would hear for the first time and fall in love with it then and there. no second listen was required. ahhhh fuck it was good. then later that day triple J played the whole push the button rekkid, and that made the day even better.
i get a nostalgic feeling whenever i hear certain noises on tracks like hold tight london and come inside... even though it was only very early this year, it feels good to remember how i felt when i first heard the album.
now all i want is to see the chems play close your eyes live.

I can easily see this being the next single. If you look at it, the Magic Numbers are gaining popularity like Bloc Party, and also the song I would imagine would do as well as Galvanize or even better here in the US, since a lot of people listen to that sort of indie-electronic music such as Postal Service, which was a huge seller for over a year when I was working at a record store. I am going to go see them in Halloween, there is a huge festival in Las Vegas called "Vegoose", which has mostly jam-bands and some hip-hop, should be fun, hope they do Close Your Eyes, that would make my day!
