^ This. And @goldeneyes it doesn't really have anything to do with the music industry, it's being put out on a label used for select movie soundtracks, I doubt it has enough money as say Astralwerks or Parlophone would to put out physical releases. It's an understandable move, not just a big money grab.
I like physical releases mainly for the artwork. A 320x320 .jpg doesn't quite deliver like a CD booklet or vinyl cover does. And I'm building my collection now, so the more physical releases the better.
see, for me also it is not just the music but everything it's coming along with, especially the artwork (this is why I hardly buy CDs but mostly vinyl) but also booklets, inner sleeves and everything which might be included as an extra. just having the music on my computer or ipod does not count that much. even though it's literally impossible to really listen to all of my 3000+ vinyls, mainly albums, I just love to take a look at them and put them back on the shelf... plus sitting down and enjoy their brilliant sound when I find the time. an mp3 is just... a fart compared to a monster truck when compared to the sound of vinyl. hence I am massively disappointed - I can well imagine the OST being full of tiny bits and pieces that best can be listened to with sennheiser HD650 or similiar but not from a crappy 320 kbps digital file. so, in the end it's the music also.
and I don't think it's a question of money for the label. this is a chemical brothers piece of music, it would sell a considerable number of cds and also few vinyl copies, they could've made them for djs and true supporters.
I have been disappointed that tom and ed have not released proper singles recently and also stopped the ebw series. I want don't think on vinyl and superflash and also the rock drill. and hanna OST, I have hardly ever been that much disappointed in terms of music release policy (and I have been a number of times when brilliant albums / singles would not get a vinyl release).
and I'm only 27! I did not grow up with vinyl as much as our older fellow forumites. to me, digital is part of my daily life.
more sad and disappointed rather than angry.
love is all.
