they've always progressed their sound and the artwork/visuals were pretty impressive, those spike models etc. they were def the first I can think of doing the computer graphics and integrating it with the music to that degree....Also remember them playing Brighton essential festival down an ISDN line from their studio, they fed live music and visuals to the site...
There's loads of early releases on Jumpin' & Pumpin' that are worth having a look for...used a variety of ofnames like Mental Cube....rattley old acidy breakbeats etc.
accelerator is great album as mips said. up-tempo breaks/acid house and nobody can argue with papua new guinea (best bassline theft of all time?)
ISDN probably got called trip-hop at the time. far more than that.....very good. the sound track to many a night off my chops with my mates talking about how we thought the record was made.
Lifeforms double CD more psyche, more ambient and like ISDN full of dialogue from films and mad noises that used to freak us right out ("I can hear myself, I think I'm a little afraid" etc).
to be fair we were twatted and sitting in a pitch black room with the sound right up. repeat every weekend for about two years :? 8O
Tales of Ephidrina (under the alias Amorphous Androgynous) is a splendid album too, really melodic...there's a couple of standout tracks 'mountain goat' being one I can remember....def worth checking
dead cities. very heavy album. bit impenetrable at times but there are some moments of really beauty amongst the noise and rattling breaks of 'we have explosive' (check the mantonix remix of this on the 12 for an apache bongo/siren workout).
The Isness (as Amorphous Androgynous) ditched the highly edited computer side of things and they started using traditional instruments and then processing/editing them. very 60's & 70's psychedelia...bit proggy....I thought it was interesting and def an evolution....there's supposed to be loads of versions of this album different to the one they released because they kept changing their minds. a friend of mine has a version different to the CD that was released....or did we just imagine that?...Who are you?
have just read they've got a new one out Alice In Ultraland so am oof to have a listen to that>>

JacksRevenge Escribi:
i suggest u don't invite this bad band on u. they have a tendency to grow if u like psychedelic rock ole school types with electronic dabblings. the only big overrider is mr coyne, he so overshadows everything, that sometimes it gets very depressive mode, n i think i'll go back to spinnin em over in my car on my way to work, or at other better reality hours. n life. FSOL on the other is a good find i think.
Speaking of FSOL, I am listening to their ISDN NetShow, which was released only as a promo. This is one bad-ass live experience!

That was cool! or Neat-o as the 50s would say.
Never was a big fan of FSOL but I had fun with that.
