Nah, it's OK Csar, I totally understand what you mean even though I disagree with some points.

You might take a beating from stash though. He's as protective of director Pete Jackson as I am the Chemical Brothers. ;)

I saw it on friday evening, it's a good film, but too long IMO, and the special effects are good but choppy... Anyway, some of the scenes reminded me of Brain Dead and Bad Taste, because they were sleazy as hell :D

Nothing's bothering me. ;) There's just a couple of points I disagree with but it's more a difference of opinion than anything else. Like, you say it was shit and I disagree. You said it was predictable, but the story of King Kong isn't exactly an original story that's going to give us a surprise ending so what's not to expect, really. The action and special effects (leading to the conclusion the film is typically Hollywood - a valid observation) are nothing more than an embellishment of the original film from the 1930's. King Kong could not have been remade without the action and the slick special effects, it just wouldn't have worked. Like I said previously it is what it is.

The length of the film didn't bother me because the I felt the movie moved pretty fast with enough going on to keep me occupied. But if anything will kill this film in the box office it's going to be the movie's length. To sit for over 3 hours in any movie theater is a lot to ask of an audience. Pete Jackson succeeded with the Lord of the Rings movies being really long, but lightning doesn't always strike in the same spot twice. Although judging by the mostly idiotic movie crowd I was surrounded by on Friday night, the kids were better bahved than the adults!

If the film tanks after this weekend, I think the majority of money that's going to be made is through dvd sales. This has everything a person could possibly want to give their home theater systems a workout - plus the added benefit of pausing the film so you can smoke, take a potty break, etc. etc. X-D

But i think the story is a very good parable and a mirror of humans behaviour in lots of its facets (love, hate, treason, fearing the unkown, greed, foolingness, ignorance and so on).

This I totally agree with!

btw on a side note, did you know King Kong was Hitler's favorite movie? Swear, it's true!! That and... Snow White.

Ben_j, cool to see a mention of Bad Taste around here. It's a great splatter film and like you say, so sleazy! Brain Dead (or the alternative title, Dead Alive) is great as well once holding the spot of most blood onscreen, ever.

Have you seen Meet The Feebles? Talk about sleazy! I love it though, it's twisted and royally fucked up. It's like the Muppets on crack!!

If you can find it, you have to see it. It's one of the most sick and twisted things ever.

We first heard about Meet The Feebles when stash and I were at an amusement park. We were waiting in a long line for a ride and this guy next to us started talking to his friend about the NIN and David Bowie concert he went to, so stash and I started talking to him because we were at the same show. The topic of conversation moved quickly to movies and this guy kept recommending Meet The Feebles saying it was right up our alley, he described it as Muppets on Crack and that got our attention. We searched high and low trying to find a place that rented it. Eventually we did but we couldn't find a place that sold it (this was a little over 10 years ago before everyone had the internet)

A few years later, stash and I went to a game convention and we found a bootlegged copy for sale - on vhs. We showed it to a lot of friends who didn't know what to make of it, and ended up leaving our house quite disturbed. A truly fucked up film it is!

I saw it yesterday, nice film, the story i already knew it so.. about the special effects is it me or in some points they look really crappy 8O (Dont shoot me) for example the first shot of the dinosaurs they look like the old kong movies if you know what i mean, there is like a big screen in front of the actors, the first time kong grabs Naomi Watts (Super Hoooot!!) she look like a PS2 character anyway i loved the giant insects and the design of the dinos they look like the old skool dino movies but realistic, i like the dino stampida part too. }:-)
