It was the winter of 1999, and i purchased a copy of 'dig your own hole'. It blew my mind, it was like nothing id ever heard. Now i own and love all the chemical brothers stuff. What im wondering is when did the chems hit you? when did you discover them and how??

1999 when they promoted HBHG on german radio stations (the only time I ever heard them on the radio). It wasn't like anything I had ever heard before. Then there was silence.

In early 2002 I picked up the Exit Planet Dust / DYOH double pack... well and here I am now. :)

I heard HBHG on Radio 1, loved it and bought the single. I had heard of the chems before but I never took much notice (not sure why ). Somebody put Surrender onto a tape for me and I loved that as well. Then there was silence.........................................until I bought Block rockin' beats (CD1) the following January. Then there was another silence...................................until the following erm, January when I found Music: response for 1 in HMV (bet you're all jealous! :P ). Then I bought Exit planet dust and it carried on from there. I started 2001 with 2 chems cds and ended the year with 17 :o .

My story is the best. It was at the summer of 1999. I was in my car with an ex-girlfriend. She was arguing with me about something when Hey Boy Hey Girl started on the radio. I putted the volume up to listen to that fantastic music. A few seconds later she ordered me to low the volume. I did but I was not listening to her anymore. A few days later I bought Surrender.

Is that why she became your ex-girlfriend ? }:-)

Well it began in 2000. First song that i heard was HGHB.that time i was new to the techno scene so i ignored HGHB as a cheesy disco song. Few Months later... i heard BRB..."another cheesy song",i said...few months later i was in my room going through my tapes and i found a tape labeled ' it will blow ya mind '...so i listen to it and Prodigy's Smack my bitch up come up followed by Get Busy child and at that time i was doing my math-homework... about half and hour later Where do i begin comes up and i say 'oh cool' and then TPPR and -like everybody said it- rest is history.

Some time in 1999 on the way to school with my mom she put in Surrender... Music:response caught my attention and then at home that afternoon I put it on the stereo and listened to it all the way through. Since then, absolutely obsessed.

ah now here's a good story, and true.

About 3 yrs ago I was getting into dance music, had none in my CD collection so went shopping one day. Saw a rack of sale stuff so had a look and there was Leftfield - Leftism, Morcheeba-Big Calm and Chems-Surrender.

I'd never heard anything by any of these before but heard ppl talking about em so just bought em and took them home for a listen. tbh didn't think that much of Surrender at 1st but after a few listens I really got into it. That's the CD that defines the Chems for me, still listen to it a lot now.

But how good are those 3 CDs to just pick up on a hunch and have no idea at the time what awesome albums they all are!!!! Mysterious forces at work 8)

Leftism and Surrender are two heavyweights. How were you able to listen to these two albums in one single day. It is indeed 'more brilliant work than a common man is able to handle'. But i still think that Surrender kicks more ass than leftism.

Wow, it seems it HBHG that made half of the Chems fans today. I think my conversion into electronic music and the like, started with Garbage, then i bought Propellerheads, that was my first real dance music album....i just got really into big beat from then on....

It was about 1997, and I was running through my brothers CD collection. I saw the alien green CD and grabbed it. It was EPD and I sat in my room and listened to it. I first heard Leave home, then changed it to Life is Sweet. The next summer (or so) I bought Surrender. I have been a Chemical brother since.
