Thanks to Pooter's constant (but annoying ) mentioning of Vitalic in this forum, I stumbled upon some 12's of his earlier work. When I found it, I thought to myself 'Pooter listens to this stuff', so I took it as buying advice and brought home Fanfares and Poney EP. Good buys!

But when I heard the track 'Flashmob', I thought I found the 'meaning of life' and the 'holy grail' all in one!

nuff said!

You're so lucky to fave found Fanfares ! I've been searching the vinyl for months...
By the way, he'll be touring in the US in october (V Mirror live !), so go and see him ! It's a great experience.

Am I the only one that thinks it's odd that the Another World 12" doesn't contain Another World? Has anyone seen the artwork? Will it just be called "Remixes"?

I thought the same thing when I read the news on the website. I don't think the vinyl will be called "Another World", that'd be odd.
I think it'll just be a promo-like with the name of the tracks written in the middle of the disc. I mean no artwork.
Or maybe there'll be the artwork of Another World but without "Another World" written on it...

Probably but that would be strange too cause there's also a remix of Horse Power.

So, my initial thoughts are that I quite like the collection of remixes that are on this single/EP. I don't really have any sharp criticisms because I'm not terribly familiar with Boyz Noize or Popof (shameful, I know) so I don't have good comparisons on past works, and therefore no expectations on what I think these should sound like. Actually I had no expectations because, well. I didn't listen to these or other remixes when they popped up previously.. Anyway.

(Swoon) Boyz Noize - I like this. The overall feel is very summertime (that's a given!!), very laid back with an air of openness that expands on the airy vibe of the original. I enjoyed the floaty, whimsical breakdown at around 3:30. I think this is a very nice take on Swoon. To me I didn't feel there was anything in this remix that overpowered the elements of the original - and that's fine with me.

(Swoon) Lindstrom & Prins) - A gentle gem. Again, nice summertime chilled out take on the original but beefed up with a thick undercurrent of funky bass that feels like the linear force behind this remix. I enjoyed how the elements were separated and spread out and 'staggered' through this track. I like how the layers are peeled back to the vocals, then brought back in piece by piece. It's a gentle build that expands on the original and like the Boyz Noize remix, doesn't overwhelm it. And hooray for the twinkly bits that come in at 7:45

(Horsepower) Popof - I understand the criticism here as this almost feels like a different beast than the original - but I'm not sure if I agree with those criticisms at the moment. I like the effects on the original Horsepower sounds, especially that high pitched wail. I really love the echoing build and rushy 'tsssss' releases that are dotted throughout this mix. I like how these builds get more intense as the song progresses. It's very 3am on the dancefloor, it's got a the-night's-about-to-go-all-fucked-up feel about it. Given that the original Horsepower is a thundering, mad and tough act to follow, I found this remix to be a rather subdued interpretation that would work well squeezed into a DJ set. Like the Swoon remixes I think this completes the EP as a summer collection of remixes. And I liked that this take on Horsepower didn't seem to try and overpower the greatness of the original.

Daft Punk's remix of Life Is Sweet is kinda cool (even if not really close to the original).

Daft Punk remix of Life is Sweet definitely. Pretty much a Daft Punk track circa Homework era and love it.
Come out from the cold and into the setting sun. It's where it all began for me (not in Afrika), like it was out of control. Then after that life was sweet. So dream on into the pioneer skies of the fourteenth century and rise from the sunshine underground.

Apart from the "Horse Power" vocal sample, it sounds nothing like the original version. It's a Popof track with a sample from Horse Power. I think it's a bit too cliché, with that "build up then release" thing we can find in most of Popof's tracks. The beats are well-produced but the track, in itself, lacks a bit of originality to me. This is probably the reason why I've never been a fan of Popof's music in general : it's basic progressive techno without much originality. It's not bad but it's not really awesome.
Ed said that this remix was a banger but for me it's nothing compared to the original !

Agree! The remix needs more flavor!

I believe they were only released in plain die-cut black sleeves. It's probably not a FULL official release, more like a limited edition pressing for the DJs (think EBW series). Coz strangely, all the copies have this written on the label (Side B): This promotional CD has been released on the express condition that ownership and title remain vested in EMI which may require the CD to be returned at any time. Etc, etc. "CD", they say?

HEEEEEE ANTYPE!!!! Long time no read!
I don't really understand what you're saying. If I read it correctly EMI has ownership of the title and coverart of Swoon??!! That would be really weird.
musicnonstop.cu.uk says: "Pressed on die cut disco heavyweight vinyl with an artworked 12" label." I ordered it, we'll see. I will be on the look out for that promo cd.

Hello! Long time no write indeed
I was saying that they wrote all that stuff about the promotional CD on side B label of Swoon/Horse Power vinyl, which is really strange because that's not a CD. Usually, they put that note on promotional CDs, which basically means that EMI give out the promo CDs for free, but the ownership of the CD remains with EMI, i.e. they have the right to request you to return that CD at any time.

I said 'CD' too many times, didn't I?
