I am now trying to hunt more rare CDs in a bid to own some chemical brothers remixes including my favourite(s) La Tristesse Durera and Faster. I know there is always Amazon/eBay to try and get the CDs from but for some of them there is not much choice from the seller. I've actually e-mailed a local record store so fingers crossed I get a positive response soon. I'm really posting my list here in case anyone has any advice or knows better formats etc. Also what's the view on the Dave Clarke, Primal Scream, Republica and the Manic's Everything Must Go remixes as I have yet to hear a good portion of them? Another question is how the vocal mixes compare to the dub mixes especially in the case of the Manics remixes as they are split over different discs.

Here's a list of what I'm trying to get hold of:

  • The Chemical Brothers - Get Yourself High EP (US version)

  • The Chemical Brothers - Elektrobank EP (US version)

  • The Chemical Brothers - Life is Sweet EP (US version)

  • The Chemical Brothers - The Private Psychedelic Reel

  • The Manic Street Preachers - She is Suffering (Part 2)

  • The Manic Street Preachers - A Design for Life (Part 2)

  • The Manic Street Preachers - Everything Must Go (Part 2)

  • Mercury Rev - Delta Sun Bottleneck Stomp (Part 1)

  • Method Man - 'I'll be there for you/You're all I need to get by featuring Mary J Blige' (Parts 1 or 2, whichever has Chemical Brothers mix)

  • Dave Clarke - No One's Driving

  • Lionrock - Straight at yer Head

  • The Charlatans UK - The Charlatans UK Vs. The Chemical Brothers (US version)

primal scream remixes are great especially swatsika eyes which is very easy to get as they released it on exterminator, also the edit of that was released on there greatest hits, as for manics, everything must go is superb but pretty hard to get. scream to a sigh and faster have versions on forever delayed the manics greatest hits but only on early copies.dave clarke remix is one of the best but is hard to get.lionrock remix is on tons of compilations and live at the social. try amazon is my advice.

Exactly! I want to own the singles with these mixes, not a download of them. Even more so since some of the Manics discs have really good artwork/packaging. 8)

Got it! Bought it one or two weeks after that single was released, officially the first Chems remix I bought. I really like the drum beat at 4:26, the buildup at 5:30 is particularly heavenly too. Incidentally at about 4:44 to 5:00 I get some very slight scrambled noise for a split second, inbetween each bleepy noise - does anyone else have this? It's not like the music stops and all you hear is a scrambled noise, it's kind if mingled in there in the chemical soundscape :? .

I went to the store today and have to wait to see if they have any of the discs I'm after in stock. Incidentally they had a copy of what I think is My Mercury Mouth in the window, I can only presume mint although the packaging maybe faded by the light. Anyways it was priced at 15, is this something I should snap up even though I don't have a vinyl player or is it a bad price? I was quite surprised to even see a Dust Brothers EP in the window in the first place! 8)

Might also be an indication that it is a bootleg?

I wish anType's site was working, so you could get a better idea of what to look for and make sure My Mercury Mouth isn't a bootleg. *hint hint, anType!* ;)

If this record has been sitting in a window for even a short amount of time, you can bet the packaging is faded - bootleg or not. I wonder how long it's been in the window?
be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle

It looked legit, exactly like the picture at planet-dust. I guess it's only anType who could give the advice about how to check if it's a bootleg .

Basically it did look b&w but possibly not that strong, also the whole window might have been a funny colour, maybe to stop the contents from fading. It is hard for me to describe, since it was a while since I saw it and it was also the first time I saw it. Obviously showing you a photo would be the ideal thing to do but that would be difficult. What I can say is that I remember seeing Dust Brothers in the middle in a smallish font and it looks just like the following images, so I am sure it is MMM.

Hi there! Well, I've made some great buys recently (My Mercury Mouth EP 6, Charlatans vs Chem Bros 15, Lionrock Straight At Yer Head 4, Chems '95 Essential Mix 5, Dave Clarke No-ones Driving, etc) and the best advice I can give you is that the more you search, the more you will find! Work hard at it and be patient. As a DJ, hunting for rare records and CDs has become an obsession and, aside form the DJing, is a hobby in itself :D

Some good sites, apart from the obvious Amazon, are GEMM.com, Hard to Find Records (htfr.com), Nuloop.com, and there's heaps in the states too - found most of 'em via GEMM. But the best by miles is, predictably, ebay! I got the Lionrock record, the Essential Mix and the Dave Clarke CD for less than a tenner each! I've already found people who want to give me silly money for some of these records, so ebay is great as far as I'm concerned! :)

Seems like ebay is the best place - I will be registering/bidding today. I will definitely try and get my hands on the Manics remixes (haven't heard EMG in full yet), Mercury Rev (haven't heard in ages), Method Man (haven't heard in full), the reel (for setting sun live version) and Lionrock (if they are available). Thoughts on the mixes and in particular prices would be welcomed as for Mercury Rev there is a good source other than ebay I can but it from. Tips on using ebay would be good too as I am new to this. :D

Can I double check something - basically the CD single of the reel, I already know the answer, but how good is setting sun live on the b-side? This will be the main reason for getting this CD and the sticker and poster (no idea how they look). I would also like some info for anyone who owns the bug powder dust bomb the bass remix as that sounds quite cool. Anyone able to answer my slow remix query from a few posts above?

Also, looking at the list of remixes on the official site, for Method Man there is the chemical mix/instrumental mix/chemical vocal mix/chemical dub mix. On the CD single there is the chemical mix and instrumental, so is it the vinyl that has the vocal mix and dub mix and are they 'better'?

I was wondering about the everything must go and spritualized remixes - they are both on 'brothers gonna..' so should I wait to get that and not necessarily buy the remixes on the singles? The same could be said for Packet of Peace since that is on Live at the social. I have neither of these mix cds.

And before anyone asks yes I re-registered with a different name. 8)
