February 2007 release for new Massive Attack album

EMI/Virgin have confirmed yesterday that the newest Massive Attack album will be out in February 2007. The new album, with the working title "Weather Underground", will be the band's 5th studio album to date. Del Naja and Marshall are working independently on the material. While Del Naja will be in one studio with producer Neil Davidge, Marshall will be working from his own studio on the other side of Bristol. Expected to contribute vocals on the album are Dot Allison, Horace Andy, Mike Patton, and Mos Def. In 2006 the band released a greatest hits compilation, entitled "Collected". The two-disc set (one CD and one DVD) included selected tracks from their studio albums, some rare singles, and two new tracks, "Live with Me" and "False Flags".

:D a new massive attack album and chems album in the same year......HUGE

well the only two main members left in the group are 3-D (Robert Del Naja) and Daddy G (Grant Marshall).

During the production of "Mezzanine", DJ Mushroom (Andrew Vowles) left due to the change in direction with their music. Tricky left after the band chewed him out for not finishing material (lyrics) on "protection". And at one point, during the production of "100th Window" and "Danny the Dog soundtrack," Daddy G took an absence from the band to spend time with his family.

Then earlier this year Daddy G and 3-D got back together for the release of "collected" and toured together on their world tour.

As for the more information on the new album "weather underground", what i gave you above, is all i have.

I was introduced to Massive Attack back when the release of the "blade 2" soundtrack was released. I fell in love with the tune "I against I", and started to collect some of their cd's ("blue lines" and "protection"). I liked them, but kinda grew tired of them because of their slow paced music. Not untill this year, when Coachella announced them on their lineup did I start getting into them again. A grew a better perspective of their music and fortunately got to see them live. Now their one of my favorite bands.

I came in contact with Massive Attack back in 2000 when a girl lend me "Mezzanine" and i was totally amazed about "Tear Drop" and "Man Next Door". So i started to figuring out some other releases which didn't impress me that much except "Unfinish Sympathy" (one of their best imo) at that time. Then, was it last year?, i had a listen to 100th window. I need to buy it one day . . . Ah and the "collected" is pretty good too!

'Unfinished Sympathy' makes any decent top 5 song list ever. No questions. (Well, until I see a better top 5 song list, anyways.)

Love their work, esp. the first three albums.

Bosco, do you have the 11 disc singles 90-98 box set? It's worth tracking down. Excellent stuff on it.

I could probably send you some tracks when I get some time. But I really do recommend getting the box, it's a pretty nice set. Picked it up for around $45 USD in Los Angeles.

i used the search function to find it:

http://forums.theche....com/search.php

and as for their new album.... It sounds like it got majorly delayed. Which is fine, cause I rather they dont put out quickly thrown together crap.

Bosco - I Against I is one of the acest trip hop tune i've ever heard! period!

i used to love massive attack, but have fallen out since their last few releases - especially since i couldn't hear danny the dog thru just the third time.

love everything from mezzanine (that's a MEAN album - never to be mixed with acid) - and I liked Blue Lines a long time back, but I fell out mostly because it'd become painful dark depressive music - especially mezzanine the genius.

i hope the new album picks up on the trip hop energy factor, even if it's a silly nice one like blue lines or as good as 100th window. i don't think there's a mezzanine coming again ever from them.

Oh yeah - bang on bout the live factor - i've heard a firsthand experience from a friend when they played wireless last yr as closing act, and my friend says they were insane.

Danny The Dog isn't an album; it's a soundtrack.
