If only all the new fans could see them in the smaller venues that we (shall I say) older/longer fans were able to see them in would be an absolutely mind blowing experience for them

How about some smaller venues for we older and newer fans

You just cant beat the vibe in a smaller venue

It is great that they have made it big (not so much sold out but are enjoying the fruits of their success)

Please dont forget us

I see what you mean and agree on a certain level, but with overall prodcution costs of a Chems gig, it wouldn't be financially feasible for the Chems to play small venues. Perhaps a one-off gig every now and again... but it wouldn't be something frequent.

The Chemical Brothers have not forgotten their old fans.

Don't think they will ever forget their fans. DJ sets are the best way to appreciate the smaller gig vibe now a days, but as Whirly says the whole Chems Live things is now geared towards a larger audience. Although they still play venues like Manchester Apollo which is not that big.

I'd like to have a time machine and see them playing in 94/95. I'd do the same with Daft Punk too

I'll jump on here, too, and say that I really appreciate how Tom & Ed keep us in mind. I think Whirls might be right with the one-off gigs, though in smaller venues there would probably be limited visual setups.

On the other hand, I think that would be really cool, actually. During this last tour I almost got to the point where I thought the visuals were a bit --too-- perfected. I liked how the old setups had a kind of gritty, homemade feel to them, almost like they were more organic. I realize that using the word "organic" to describe a visual setup is a bit odd, but there is something to be said about how perfection sometimes lends itself to feeling... impersonal? I suppose I'm thinking about corporate imagery and the slick graphics of commercial production in this case.

In any event, I'd love to see T&E experiment and mash things up more to see what else comes out in the music on stage. I've taken some effort to listen to a set from each era of touring, and man if I'm not blown away to see what they have come up with during each tour--something unique and amazing each time around.

Agreed. That's exactly what I meant when I was saying "please keep up messing around with our expectations"

Yep Whirly! DJ sets would be greatly appreciated in the states (More pesos). But a big show like the WATN tour wouldn't work out (Less pesos)as Tom once said that they would be 'pennyless' and have to sell their equipment!

Would love to see the Chems do their own gig (non-festival). The Chemical Brothers are a festival band, for sure - their music is meant to be enjoyed by huge crowds most definitely.

But I'd like to feel the same type of intimacy one gets when they see their favorite band headline their own show. I bet they could have done their own show in Los Angeles last time around!

I understand what you mean Pooter about how their old set up had a more gritty feel - almost as though the projector, screens and mess of electronic kit and wires all going this way and that were hauled out of a truck and thrown on stage was very... Jenga... in a way. But I don't think that would work now. During Push The Button, people were complaining about how the visuals and the way the visuals were presented seemed outdated. They hadn't changed all that much in years. It worked just fine at the time, but the people that spoke out had a point and the Chems listened. I personally like their slick set up they have now. The Chems have evolved, their sound is so much bigger and so much more engulfing than it was 5 years, 10 years ago. I know the music speaks for itself but the visuals have always been a part of the production and that aspect of the live shows had to evolve as well.

Ah, yes, count me in as yet another fan they end up annoying with the changes.

Always nice, though, that you see the pros and cons, Whirls. :)

I think that when it comes to size of show and what not, I was very pleased with this tour, especially seeing them in San Francisco. That was a pretty small show (or at least we were close enough to the stage not to notice). The venue was shoe-boxed shaped (yeah, I made a diorama of the show) and the stage fit perfectly into it. The atmosphere was pretty warm and welcoming. Sure, at this show as well the next night, there were people squeezing and trying to get up front (always during ARR for some reason), but the SF show's atmosphere was pretty good, such as people were moshing during BRB, which was hilarious. So I hate to brag, but even though being an american fan sucks 85% of the time, definitely being able to see them play a non-festival show indoors was perfection... like I said, I'm not bragging. :x

As for their stage stuff and what not; I really enjoy the fact that they have an excellent balance of the lights/visuals being spot on, but they seem to have far more improvising and use of synths in their show than ever before. Especially being someone that collects a lot of their live recordings.

Ooh, that was a good show... God there was some great fucking energy there, and yeah, it felt like a much smaller venue.

I saw Justice at that same venue a few months back and hated it--teenage Justice fans suck.

But back to the SF show, I don't know if I could have expected a better Chemical experience, save for the lack of actual chemicals in my system. Teeheehee...

Whirly, we will get you and your family to a non-festival show, no matter what it takes.
