Hi kids, what time is it!? Anyway, at last I've got the album. Japan Edition by the way + 2 bonus tracks (including "No Need" - which is the best for me from additional single tracks); A bit of dissapointment, I should say.. Nevermind, cause "Burst Generator" and "A Modern Midnight Conversation" really are fabulous and I loved them - really our taste of chems, isn't it? Oh, and, ofcourse "All Rights Reversed" with Klaxons - really kicked ass in Amsterdam Music Halle, which I liked very much and everybody did. And the intro "No Path To Follow" - oh, quite brilliant. And "We Are The Night" track, now I remember that as well. But just these tracks that I've mentioned - just these I liked. Nothing else in particular. Oh, and "Salmon Dance" quite a funny and very groovy one - yeeaaahhh..

whirly - maybe the fact that u were hearing a shitty mp3 was the reason ebw 8 didn't do as much as saturate for u? i was telling everyone all this while wait till u hear the cd version - the mp3 sucked - i really like saturate but ebw8 BLOWS. have a vinyl and the drums and those sounds are so gritty and huge and dirty, i'm glad i paid for shipping for 4 vinyls one shot.

the same with do it again - it's DIRRRRTY on vinyl - that's why i have a new found appreciation for it's production work.

"speaking of midnight -- bosco, you find it '80s? it's a 70s bassline met with a '60s+'naughts beat filled with brand new chemical brother production values"

you might be right...but the instrumental reminds me of something Lionel Richie would sing over. I guess thats why I said it sound 80'sish

oh yeah. I got my signed cd booklet from newburry comics. The fact that Ed didnt sign with an "x" leaves me worried that its a fake!

I have the Tongy rip of EBW 8 and a better mp3 of it - same with EBW 9. Of both Battle Weapons, I still prefer 9. Electronic Battle Weapon 8 goes to 8, but Electronic Battle Weapon 9 goes to 11!!

I also had the mp3 of We Are The Night and still preferred Saturate on the album over Battle Weapon 8. My mind was pretty much made up when I first heard We Are The Night, even though it was the mp3. Having the real deal on cd now only reinforces what I felt previously. I really think at this point it's a matter of opinion and preference. As I said earlier (and mp3 quality aside) I think EBW8 is drawn out. I hope I'm not coming off as saying I don't like EBW8 because that's not what I'm trying to convey. I really do like it, but I just happen to think Saturate is so perfect on We Are The Night. It's one nice brushstroke that helps make the painting...

haha, maybe I should invest in a record player. No - maybe not. That would be dangerous for me!

Bosco - maybe Ed's hand was tired at that point from having to sign his name a gazillion times. ;)

Nah, I'm just being a brat. I think you're all good. I do. I wouldn't worry - Ed's signature on my Come With Us poster doesn't have an "x" either. Tom's does, but not Ed's.

haha, that could be true. But I did get a exlimation (!) from Ed! And Tom's signature looks more like Ron then Tom

Ron and Ed 4 life!

on the EBW 8/9 debate......EBW 8 I love still...even as saturate but I think the EBW 8 Vinyl version was better (I'm still amazed I picked that up here at Foosh). EBW 9 is great though I won't deny that. plus that Tongy version doesn't do justice IMO (though if I still love the part in the show where we're all 'a little moist').

anywho....

got my LP of WATN from work today and I don't know if it has been mentioned by anyone here but right where it's scratched in 'Mike's exchange' around the sticker on all the sides I noticed some intresting messages.

On side A it says 'making calculations to generate sensations'

Side B 'lined him'

Side C 'anyone for jerk chicken?'

Side D 'dogs on gunpowder'

so side B and D I have no idea what the reference is behind that (help). A is obviously EBW9. Then C is just brilliant and I gotta say I wanted some of Steve dub's cooking as soon as I saw that. Forum joke on the record.....how great!!!

That Anyone For Jerk Chicken bit is enough to make me want the LP, hahaha!! Rynostar, get cookin'!

B and D are a an enigma to me too. I wonder what that's about...?

I'm going to take a crack at the mystery of B. Lined him... isn't that a fishing term? mippio...?

Maybe it's got to do with catching salmon. Or maybe it something a bit more illicit. ;)

I've waited for the release date to buy the new album, even i have could downloaded the songs from the internet like some others but I just LOVE the Chems and their music and that's why I'm buying only their music in stores :-). I HAVE IT NOW ! WE ARE THE NIGHT ! I was driving home with the brand new CD and couldn't wait to come home to put the disc in my PC (yea,i don't have a cd player in the car ;(). While I'm writing this I'm listening to WTN and i have to admitt that every album of the chems is unique...you have to listen to the songs more and more and first then you can fully describe the song. My impressions so far of the new Chems' album are like Saturate. The song is until now the most time in my mind, but who knows tomorrow ? There is one fact and I know that the most Chemical Brothers fans will agree with me,the thing is that since "Surrender" their music is changing in one way....it doesen't have the fast drum'n bass beat, and the... how should I say....the the cool chemical beat.Don't get me wrong I love their music and We Are The Night but it's just one constant unique chemical beat is gone which was always present in "Exit Planet dust", "Dig Your own hole" ,"Surrender" and of course The DJ remix album of the Chems "The Brothers Gonna' Work it Out".I'm following the Brothers since their first album and these are my impressions of their newest Album.

The Brothers Gonna Work It Out !

i dont agree totally chemical_medo - come with us and ptb had some killer chemical beats too, this is infact the first album i'd put under u'r category - welcome in mate anyway!

i had quite a story picking the full artwork cd finally - since i had many promos vinyls and cds lying on me, i was just being lazy driving into town to pick up my copy all this while, finally did in insane traffic on friday night, the store had closed before i started, so i called the manager who was already home n asked him to keep a billed copy for me and the store open - by the time i reached the store was closed, and there was a nice bloke waiting outside in the rain with my cd and a cash bill, and i had JUST the cash in my wallet.

i like the artwork inside (tho not my fav till date definitely) - but i love the way they've gone all out and thanked everyone so nicely. mr dubb's got two mentions. his jerk chicken should have made it too. it's part of their history now.

Songs like We Are The Night, Surface To Air, Come With Us, It Began In Afrika are really really fast and have nice bass lines.

A CHEMICAL SPORTS STORY!!!

So. I go to the gym because i feel i am to skinny and i'm trying to get some muscles going you know. No body builder style obviously but just some toning.

So i train quit hard cause when in train i need to actually feel that i am doing something. And its hard to push 65 kilo's away with youre legs wich is more than u even weigh yourself.

So i'm doing my excercises and i am listening to WATN and DIA comes one. And i am so exhausted and tired but I NEED MUSCLES. So this voice comes " Do it again. Do it again"

And...it was like somebody told me to do it again, so i thought, i can do it! And i finished my exercises. It was really like some drill instructor telling me to do it one more time

I thought that was quite funny

hahaha, Jeanie - I totally know what you mean!

When I walked my half marathon back in February, I had my ipod on shuffle and just let whatever music play. The moments I remember most are the ones where the Chems came on shuffle - it always seemed the Chems came on when I most needed it and the music sort of offered me these bursts of energy to keep going. The last song that came on before the battery died out was Galvanize, and I could see the finish line off in the distance. I was so exhausted, I was completely worked, sweating like crazy through n'through, and my body was so swollen my wedding ring was cutting into my finger. But when that song came on I got this rush of energy - so now when I hear Galvanize I think that home stretch to the end of the marathon, being totally exhausted but knowing I pushed myself to accomplish a physical goal. It was a good feeling (except for being in a fair amount of pain for the next 3 days, but that's beside the point).

So anyway. About We Are The Night. I have taken advantage of the nice weather and have been walking again every evening after work. I listen to this album solid during my walks. It really is my perfect summertime album and it's become a soundtrack to my walks (amongst other things). And after all these listens, We Are The Night is holding its own.
