it seems when you listen to the set that there arent many people in the room, tent whatever

i always loved when i listen to that set, as soon as The Private psychedelic reel drops, no one cheers and then you can hear tom go:

"C'MON!!!"

and then you hear maybe 50 or so people cheer.

it makes me happy. it paints a picture of him doing it in my head. hehe.

(it doesn't make me happy that there is only a small crowd there, but you know... the fact that i can see tom doing it)

hehe. I saw that happen once, where Tom was coaxing the crowd into cheering. I saw them do a dj set at Coachella, and it was blistering hot all day long. The tent they played in was like a sauna, and their set was the last of the evening - just after Fatboy Slim. Everyone was exhausted, but the tent was packed with people dedicated to hanging on to those last moments of the festival. It was a tough crowd not in the sense that people didn't want to be there, it was tough because it was honetly and truly an exhausting day in the heat. Anyway, the Chems were previewing a couple of songs before the release of Come With Us and their eyes were scanning the crowd for a response. At one point Tom looked up from the decks, threw his arm up in the air which didn't elicit the kind of response he was looking for. So he mouthed this "Aww, come on!!!" in the same way a parent - in their mock sadness - looks at a child who just isn't quite getting it, haha. Tom's quite animated, yeah. When I saw them do a dj set at Audiotistic, all us up front were into it but it was kind of a hard crowd. At one point Tom, who must've been shaking off fatigue from a long transatlantic flight, did these sort of body bends at one point during the set.

That sounds like the oakland set 2 years ago. 'polite' new order crowd who were rowdy later. Tom screaming his head off and only about 50 of us cheering back. We love you tom! but the guy next to me is an old new waver jaded gen xer who has accepted the hipsters code of never cheering. I still had a good time all around.

I was married at the time; and it would take pages and pages to explain why I was only married for 2+ years... But let me summarize: I am happily divorced from her.

Looking back on it; I should have just left and gone to the damn concert. :) heheh...

Aww evermin... I'm sorry man. I guess sometimes, hindsight is 20/20, you know? I'm glad to hear you're on a happier path nowadays.

lol, why doesnt Ed do the front man work? It's always Tom yelling and bouncing around to get the crowd moving.

I would agree? It seems that Ed likes the backstage, making sure all of the rig works and queueing things up, but that Tom has taken over more of the frontstage.... I'm curious if that's just a noticable coincidence or something they're moving towards lately?

Ed seemed to get up a lot to bring the crowd up during Chicago... it got quite a few responses... from me, at least.
