It really is unusual, isn't it? Let the freakie outie begin!
Letsee, before Coachella, the last show we saw was the Chems djing at Audiotistic in October of 2003. And before that, Coachella in 2002 Tom and Ed being the highlights of course.
Just think if we lived in the UK, honey. We'd have seen the Chems so many times already our skulls would've imploded.

You WILL not be disappointed. They were great live, full of energy, good setlist including some decent covers (though I forget what they were). And despite the stories I've read of them being arrogant, they were extremely gratious and personable on stage. Top live act, to be sure.

If we lived in the UK, we would have passed beyond the 'Seeing the Chems' stage right into full blown stalking.

Oh man, Kasabian are sooooooooooo good live!!
I thoroughly enjoyed myself. And they started off with my favorite tune of theirs, I.D. which was brilliant and I knew why they have been picking up steam here and are so big in the UK already - for such a young band. They totally rocked it with Processed Beats, Reason Is Treason (K.I.L.L!!!) Running Battle, Test Transmission. The groove to Butcher Blues felt like the Manchester I missed all those years ago. The final kicker was Club Foot which really got the crowd up on their feet.
The band were, as Darkstar mentioned, very gracious and said God Bless You after every single song. And they have lots of swagger, like 'stash said the lead singer not only looks like a young Obi Wan Kenobi, but he dances like Bez! X-D
It was a full house which I wasn't expecting. I mean, it is Orange County, but I was pleasantly surprised at the diversity of the people the - lots of people of different ages, nice to have that sort of balance in the audience. The only thing that bummed me out was that the crowd could've been more up for it. With the exception of a few pockets of crowds on the floor really groovin and jumping up and down, people just sort of stood and stared. That didn't stop me and 'stash from getting sweaty to the groove.
It was a great show. If they come to your town don't miss them. They do indeed rock live!

sounds like a top gig. it does my head in as well when people just stand and stare - show some appreciation dammit!- i mean when we went to see the chems the other week at brixton theres a big mass of people just stood at the back, not dancing, not chweeering, nothing :( and then u try and slice your way through them to get to the front to 'av it and they scowl at you likle your scum!
my mate went clubbing in NY and he said it was really weird, lots of people just stood round talking (!!!) on the dancefloor sipping beer and not jigging at all, so he got down the front and threw some shapes haha

The venue, The Galaxy Theater, that I saw these guys in is built a little bit like a dinner theater. There's a floor out at the front of the stage, then curving around the sides there are two tiers with tables all around (you can order food and stuff at the venue). At the back there's a bar, with more tables to sit and watch the gig. We were off to the right side one tier up, backed up against the wall where we were close enough to the stage to see what was going on, plus we had room to move. There was a bored couple that was next to us when the gig started, but they moved after the first 3 songs. After a while another couple moved next to me and the girl was pretty into it, which made me happy. Like I said there were pockets of people throughout the venue who were into it and dancing and stuff, and there was this person with Flock Of Seagulls hair up at the front who was singing along, jumping up and down, and going crazy.
Across the room there were these 3 Paris Hilton types dancing, and they were the only ones moving in their whole area. 'stash said to me later, "So did you see those 3 chicks dancing even during the intermission?" Hahah, typical Orange County. Anyway, at least they seemed to be enjoying themselves so that's the cool part.
And I saw a guy in a Chems shirt, represent!!
And I bumped into one of the label reps who I introduced to Kasabian's music, so that was cool to see him there.
The smoking patio (where we ducked in and out of during the opening bands) is where all the inane and colorful "I'm drunk and like, you're totally rad and like, I'm hitting on you" conversation happens.
People watching is definitely at least half the fun of going out!
But anyway. Just because of the layout of the venue with it's reserved seating at the tables, it's not exactly condusive to balls out dancing and craziness for the whole crowd. The people at the table in front of us didn't even bother standing up and dancing until Club Foot (the closer) was being played. It's not a bad venue by any means, it's quite laid back and because shows there are cheap, there are a lot of people who go there because The Galaxy is what they do on a Saturday night - but I do think its design lends itself to a more reserved crowd. Although when Gwar played that same venue last year (some coworkers of mine saw that show) everyone went completely wild.
