The lead singer was in this flick called 'Everything is Illuminated', with Elijah Wood, and he was really fricken funny, played this break-dancing, Ukrainian Home-boy, so I had to check em out.

What I heard of these guys I liked, and I'd love to hear more. It did sound a bit like the Pogues if Shane McGowan were a Russian Jew playing gypsy punk rock klezmer. If that makes any sense. Anyway, it's a diversion from what I normally listen to - but that's in a good way! I think this band is definitely unique in that it manages to pull off all these varying musical styles in a fun enjoyable and energetic way. I will have to go searching for some downloadable and free links, but here's what Pitchfork (aaaack, I know!) has to say about them. A good review:

What's the world coming to when Whirly is linking to a Pitchfork review? X-D

I tried to read that review, while listening to the album... seriously, it might have been written in mandarin chinese, for how much I understood it...

I did catch that Steve Albini is the producer, and Steve Albini is THE god of punk rock.

By Pitchfork standards, it was a pretty unpretentious, straightforward review... but yeah, I catch your point. :D

Since they gave the last Dandy Warhols album a whopping 1,2 I stopped taking them serious. Bunch of fucking self-indulged arrogant pricks.

I agree, Slipvin - I generally do not like Pitchfork reviews and I've been vocal about my dislike of them. However this Gogol Bordello review did actually seem sincere and an accurate description of the music - I'm sure that writer's been fired by now. X-D
