hmmmmm.......

i think thats a very black & white attitude jcm.

if we took the literal translation of the bible in every sense we would end up with a fucked up world indeed.

i respect your opinion, but i don't think calling people dumb is gonna help your cause.

i think the basis of christinaity is a good thing (try not to lie, don't be a wanker, love each other etc) - but it's organisations like the catholic church who have played on peoples fears so they can have more power - and that to me is a very unchristian like attitude.

so it's ok for investigations of male priests who abuse little boys to be kept undercover so that the church is not embarassed by it, but 2 men or women whol love each other shouldnt be blessed by god in marriage?

seems a strange attitude to me - almost a 'dumb' attitude ;)

love & kisses

The Pope is as much a political appointment as it is a religious one. Remember, the Vatican is a country.

I'm sorry I called JCM a fucktard, but really, that's what someone who parrots the dogma they were brainwashed with is. If JCM has a cogent arguement as to why the repression of women, the persecution of homosexuals and the condemnation of an entire continent are good things, I'd be happy to hear them...

Someone at work had Fox News on the television, and I was briefly entranced by the spectacle of some religious demogogue saying that the key to saving Africa and south and Latin America was the founding of churchs... it made me want to vomit. The reason Latin America and africa are so fucked up right now is the white man going there and imposing his church and his colonial rule on them in the first place. It's was like telling an obese person that the cure to their weight problem was a strict diet of McDonalds.

im sorry that i called you dumb, i was just mad that everyone was expressing their opinion without regarding what the pope is basing his acting on. so i'm gonna say more now...

Of course there are things that are not right but the pope is also not perfect and he doesn't say at all that he is right in everything - he probably just tries to do the best he can. when any christian says that condoms should not be around (which i dont find right) then he doesnt want to condemn Afrika, he is just saying the bible forbids it. i mean - how can you make a standard of how much of the bible is "useful" and how much isn't. if you except christ which it is all about then you have to read the thing and talk to God to build a relationship with him and live a christian life. but because Jesus died for our sins doesn't mean we can just go ahead and do what we want.

so the pope sees that most of the people really just are doing what they think is pleasant and he - knowing the bible so well, can simply see that its not right. all of that stuff (repression of women, persecution of homosexuals) is in the bible.

The problem is that there is a conflict on how to adjust the laws given to modern society.

but i guess what im saying is that, in this thread, the pope was dissed like crap but no one considered his point of view.

thats it.

sorry

If peoples are not in agree with the bible, then they are not catolics.But...hmmm...why the hell they all offencing only the catolic church and it's head's and so on???why, why, why. Why You at all offencing any religious????If You are an ateists then shut up and don't say bad about religion, when You really don't feel it!!. If You laughing out the religion You are just a clown who can acceptet the therms, wchich You can't accepted. But thet speech doesn't anythink, people always will be doing what they want, because it's just fun, no? But if someone offence the chemical brothers music or himselfs, then You are just bad and angry like they would be the God for You or something, heh. Strange. But maybe for some people the chemical brothers is just some sort or religion, i don't know, for me the God is in the first place.

I generally bow out of most (if not all) religious discussion. I have my reasons - it's too personal a topic, and quite frankly I have my own set of beliefs that aren't really in-line with my spiritual heritage - I find humor is a good way of dealing with it. ;) To me, belief is difficult to explain, faith is even harder. To quote: "Explaining faith is impossible....Vision over visibility...Instinct over intellect...A songwriter plays a chord with the faith that he will hear the next one in his head."

Remember the institution and the Pope (said institution's spokesperson) is under question/attack here, not the individual like jcm or equinoxe. And nobody is attacking God.

One does not need to be a Biblical scholar to hold an opinion on Judeo-Christian thought. Many people including myself have issues with organized religion and dogmatic thought, and why should we be silenced when we have real feelings and thoughts and opinions on the subject. IMO, an athiest's opinion is just as valid as the most god fearing individuals. There are many different reasons why people arrive to where they are, and many different roads taken to get there...

i do not only offence the catholic religion, i offence most religions in general for what they do with people. i do not offence them for giving hold to some people -as music does to us-. but i do as religion is -and always was- responsible for war, murder, crime, inquisation, manipulating people, terrorism, hate. of course it's even the atheists fault, we must not forget that...

i do not offence the buddhist or nature monks in tibet. they may be some of the best people in the world, they don't know any negative feelings and are one with nature and "mother earth". i want my planet back!

no no, buddhism isn't a 'love' based religion, it's a 'reason' based religion, and their love of all the people in the world flows from that.
